From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Exeter City fall to Oxford, again

A RAMPANT Oxford United side scored two goals in each half to consign City to defeat in Paul Tisdale’s five-hundredth game in charge of the Grecians.

After a lively start to the encounter Oxford took the lead through a Chey Dunkley header in the eighth minute, before Jordan Bowery doubled the visitors' lead four minutes before first-half stoppage-time. A further two goals followed for the U’s in the second half to put the game out of the Grecians’ reach, but there was still time for City wide-man Alex Nicholls to pull one back with thirteen minutes remaining.

There was just...

Steenson praises power of the pack

Gareth Steenson may be Exeter’s master marksman, but the Chiefs fly-half was quick to praise the efforts of his forwards after they helped the Devon club return to winning ways on Sunday.

After successive defeats in the Aviva Premiership, Rob Baxter’s side rediscovered their winning habit at the Madejski Stadium as they won 22-15 against lowly London Irish.

Steenson’s 17-point haul, plus a second half try from Dave Lewis, sealed win number nine of the season for the Chiefs who remain second in the table, just four points adrift of leaders Saracens after 13 rounds of the...

Exeter City FC says 'no to homophobia'

Volunteers from Exeter Pride, the Football v Homophobia campaign in the South West, and members of Devon Lions, the local gay-friendly football club, helped Exeter City Football Club take another stand against homophobia at its home game with Newport County on Saturday, February 20.

The match was the club’s annual “Football v Homophobia” fixture and a number of initiatives to mark the day were organised by the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and its One Game One Community (OGOC) Group and the Club’s Football in the Community charity. It was the seventh time that a Football v...

London Irish 15 Exeter Chiefs 22

When push came to shove, it was Exeter Chiefs who powered their way to a ninth Aviva Premiership victory of the season against lowly London Irish.

Having trailed 7-6 at the break, Rob Baxter’s side returned to winning ways in the top flight with a hard-fought win that was not only timely, but helped to keep an ever-increasing chasing pack in the play-off race at arms length.

Replacement Dave Lewis scampered over for Exeter’s only try of the game, while fly-half Gareth Steenson did the rest of the damage with an unblemished 17 points with his trusty right boot.

Chiefs side to face London Irish

Rob Hunter has warned Exeter Chiefs to be wary of a potential backlash from London Irish when the two meet in the Aviva Premiership on Sunday (3pm).

Forwards coach Hunter is well aware the lowly Exiles will be hurting following last weekend’s 35-7 defeat at Northampton Saints and he believes they will be searching for an immediate response of sorts at the Madejski Stadium.

Bottom of the pile and with just three league victories to their name this term, Irish know they must make the most of home advantage and look to replicate their achievements of last season when a last-...

Exeter City draw at home

City and the Exiles share the spoils at SJP

IN A REPEAT of the reverse tie at Rodney Parade in October, Exeter City were pegged back by Newport County AFC as both sides had to settle for a point.

Paul Tisdale made four changes to the City side following midweek’s trip to York City, with Jamie McAllister, Arron Davies, Alex Nicholls and David Wheeler all coming in.

The home side's first chance fell to Jayden Stockley, whose shot was deflected just wide of Newport keeper Joe Day’s goal. City continued to push for an opener as Alex Nicholls' right-footed free-kick was...

Carrots for winners at Exeter Racecourse

The Devon National Handicap Chase will take centre stage on Haldon Hill on Friday, February 26 and Exeter Racecourse is rewarding each horse that runs with a net of carrots and a box of polos.

The race is Devon’s very own Grand National and draws entries from many seasoned horses who may not be top class, but who have built up their own legion of fans during the years they have been racing.

“It’s a race I really love with well known horses often in the line up,” explained General Manager Daniel Thompson. “It’s always very competitive, and you can sometimes get an outsider...

Ryanair secure World Hurdle sponsorship

Ryanair will take over the sponsorship of the World Hurdle at Cheltenham after British Racing’s Authorised Betting Partner scheme saw Ladbrokes demoted from the sponsorship rights.

The ABP scheme, in which bookmakers are required to pay a percentage of their digital profits on horseracing back to the sport as levy, encourages racecourses to adopt new sponsorship deals only with bookmakers who were part of the scheme.

Unfortunately for Ladbrokes they did not sign up to the agreement and that has allowed Ryanair to swoop in, with the Irish airline’s boss Michael O’Leary...

Exeter City lose to York

BRADLEY FEWSTER scored twice to condemn the Grecians to a 2-0 defeat at Bootham Crescent. JORDAN MOORE-TAYLOR returned as captain for Exeter City; Jake Taylor made his first start since rejoining the club in the January window, while Ryan Harley was another City man who made his return to the starting eleven after an appearance off the bench at Wycombe at the weekend. Matt Oakley and Jordan Tillson were the fourth and fifth changes from the weekend. This clash ended 0-0 at St James Park earlier in the season - the only time City have been involved in a goalless draw all season. City had...
