From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Exeter City fall short

Play-off hopes take a blow as Mansfield ruin City comeback

DESPITE A TREMENDOUS second-half fightback, Exeter City were beaten by Mansfield Town at St James Park, leaving their play-off push looking a very steep task with three games left.

Ryan Tafazolli gave the visitors the lead before Malvind Benning doubled it in style, leaving City looking down and out. But they looked to have salvaged a point after Ollie Watkins and Christian Ribeiro (another screamer) drew them level. They were on terms for just three minutes, however; Tafazolli volleyed the winner with eight minutes...

Previous holders Afghan United were edged out in a tight final of Exeter City’s One Game One Community Futsal tournament at the University of Exeter Sports Centre on Sunday (17 April). The new champions are FC Ballers, a group of friends from Exeter and East Devon who formed a team especially for the competition. They won the final 2-1. The third place play-off winners were Kurdish FC who beat 99 Problems, from South Devon, 4-2. The Kurds also took the tournament Fair Play Award. The trophies and medals were presented by members of the Amir family from Exeter, Fatima (9), Sakina (7) and...

Discipline cost us says Baxter

Frustrated Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter bemoaned a lack of discipline from his players as the wait to book a first-ever appearance in the Aviva Premiership play-offs continues.

een for a response after their European Champions Cup exit to Wasps the week previous, the Devonians again suffered away-day misery, slipping to a 16-9 loss at Gloucester.

After a scoreless opening half, Chiefs skipper Gareth Steenson fired them in front with the first of three successful penalties, but it was the Cherry & Whites who prevailed, claiming a converted score from debutant Olly...

Stockley takes positives from draw with league champions

Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley felt the point earned against Sky Bet League Two champions Northampton Town was well deserved as the Grecians extended their unbeaten run to ten matches.

Despite the game finishing 0-0 it was an exciting encounter with both sides having good chances to score, and Stockley felt the hard earned point could make the difference at the end of the campaign as City continue their fight for the play-offs.

The 22-year-old said: “First half we were good and I think in the second half we had to show that were resolute. We were playing against a...

Exeter City 0-0 Northampton Town: Grecians hold newly crowned champions

Exeter City held newly crowned Sky Bet League Two champions Northampton Town to a goalless draw at St James Park.

Though without a goal the match was not without its drama as City’s opponents needed results to go their way to be crowned champions.

With City’s eyes focused on the play-offs, Chris Wilder’s side proved a tough test for the Grecians, who did have the better of the chances in the match.

Good opportunities fell to Jayden Stockley and Jake Taylor, with the former crashing a header against the post in the second half, and Taylor failed to convert the...

With little time to wallow in the disappointment of their European Champions Cup exit, it's back to the cut and thrust of the Aviva Premiership for Exeter Chiefs tomorrow as they take on Gloucester at Kingsholm (7.45pm).

Denied a place in the last four of Europe because of Jimmy Gopperth's last-gasp conversion a week ago, the prospect of booking a first-ever appearance in the Premiership play-offs should now act as the ideal incentive for Rob Baxter's side to attack the remainder of the season.

Having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last term due to points' difference...

The youth of today are a whole lot more sedentary than ever before, with more children than ever classified as obese throughout the UK. With rapidly evolving technical trends and a huge increase in foods and drinks with high sugar/ fat content, we are heading fast towards an obese generation.

As parents and professionals we know that exercise and a healthy lifestyle is good for both physical and mental wellbeing. With the correct role models and especially when sport is on a national stage, participation increases significantly, which with it brings huge health benefits, but how...
