The Emma Lavelle-trained Silver Thorn won the feature Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, making virtually all the running to score by two lengths from co-favourite El Granjero at Exeter yesterday, where the sun shone on a beautiful day at Haldon Hill.

New outdoor festival launches with most iconic trail

A new outdoor festival with one of Britain’s toughest trails is promised to be one of the highlights of the South west festival.

The running event is to take place in the heart of Heddon Valley in North Devon this September 23-25.

There will be a mixture of trail running challenges, with three distances to choose from which are a full off road marathon length race, a half marathon event, and a 10km challenge.

Exeter Quay will once again be host to the City of Exeter Rowing Regatta on Saturday 9 July for a full day of sprint racing at the historic quayside.

The Regatta at Exeter Quay is a great day out for the family. Parents and youngsters can be inspired by the action and families can also relax in the cafes and bars. The first race is at 10:00am and racing continues through-out the day ending at 6pm with the mens’ open eight.

Callington and fghan United were the winners in Exeter City’s community football tournament held on Sunday (3 July). Nearly 200 local players took part.

Callington won the Women’s competition, winning every match they played. They beat Tedburn St Mary based Inter M’Ladies 5-1 in the final. In the semi finals Callington defeated the All Blacks from South Devon 2-1 and Inter edged out Buckland, also by 2-1. Archibald-Henville completes City return

Exeter City are delighted to announce that centre-back Troy Archibald-Henville has completed his return to the club following a two-year spell at Carlisle United.

Troy is City’s fourth recruit of the summer, following the acquisitions of midfielder Lloyd James, and strikers Robbie Simpson and Liam McAlinden.

Exeter City Football Club will once again celebrate local diversity by holding a community football tournament on Sunday 3 July. Both male and female teams will compete for trophies. The 6 a side competition has been organised by Exeter City Supporters Trust’s One Game One Community Group and Exeter City’s Football in the Community team.

Exeter City to remember players killed in Somme

Exeter City Football Club will be remembering four former players who died during the Battle of the Somme at a special ceremony to be held at their St James Park war memorial.

The memorial service, in partnership with the Royal British Legion, will take place at 2pm on Friday 1 July. This is the exact centenary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Fixtures confirmed for Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s

The pools and fixtures for next month's Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s have been confirmed as Sandy Park prepares to host the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series for the second time.

The tournament, which takes place July 9-10, forms a key part of GB Sevens' preparations for Rio with the wider training squad competing as two teams, the GB Lions and GB Royals.

GB Royals will face Portugal, Poland and France during match day one while GB Lions will take on Belgium and Italy before concluding day one against Germany. The full schedule can be found here .
