The Emma Lavelle-trained Silver Thorn won the feature Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, making virtually all the running to score by two lengths from co-favourite El Granjero at Exeter yesterday, where the sun shone on a beautiful day at Haldon Hill.

Exeter City draw Luton Town in FA Cup first round

Exeter City’s director of football Steve Perryman says he is expecting a competitive game with Luton Town when the Hatters visit St James Park for an FA Cup first round tie in November.

City, who took Liverpool to an FA Cup replay last season, were drawn against Nathan Jones’ team in the first round draw on Monday night.

Luton won on their last visit to St James Park but it was a pulsating encounter as City battled back from two goals down to draw level before Paul Benson won the game with a contentious goal deep into injury time.

An East Devon based rounders club has claimed silver at Sport England’s Sportivate Project of the Year Awards. Bicton College Rounders took the prize in recognition of its work to help more young people with impairments play rounders. The award was presented in London this week by Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch MP and Paralympic superstar Dame Sarah Storey.

Giselle Ansley, part of the GB hockey squad who won gold in Rio 2016, paid Exeter School pupils a visit on Thursday 13 October. It was great for pupils to see how somebody from South Devon has gone on to represent GB at the Olympics and brought home a gold medal!

She attended school in South Devon with Mrs Clark and started playing hockey at Paignton Junior Hockey Club before moving to Plymouth Marjon and then continued to play during her studies at Loughborough University. She made her debut for England against South Africa in February 2013.

Sport stars, volunteers, teams and coaches are all finalists in Teignbridge District Council’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2016.

The prestigious awards recognise the district’s top sportspeople and their achievements, and this year will be held on Friday 2 December at Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.

Exmouth golfers qualify for Moroccan Grand Final

A pair of amateur golfers from Exmouth is celebrating securing an expenses-paid trip of a lifetime to Morocco after qualifying for the senior pairs grand final of the 2016 Morocco Matchplay, powered by HowDidiDo.

Jo Pavey presents former school with piece of London 2012 track

Five-time Olympian and 2014 European 10,000m champion Jo Pavey today visited her former secondary school, The King’s School, Ottery St Mary, to present a commemorative piece of the London 2012 athletics track, that she and so many other Olympic legends raced on four years ago.

The 43 year-old from Honiton, East Devon, presented a large, decorative framed piece of the track to the school as a memento of her sporting achievements. The mother of two was also presented with a piece of the track.

The Exeter City first team players and staff were given the chance to thank club volunteers for their help at a party after Saturday’s 0-0 draw Grimsby Town.

The event, which was organised by the club and the Supporters’ Trust, took place in the Paramount Personnel Lounge with more than 60 people in attendance.

Supporters’ Trust chairman Laurence Overend paid tribute to the volunteering ethos at Exeter City and manager Paul Tisdale also praised their work in his post-match comments.
