Exeter Sea Bees launch free youth baseball open day

Young people across Exeter are being invited to discover America's favourite pastime this weekend as the newly formed Exeter Sea Bees hold a free open day for aspiring baseball players.

Taking place on Saturday, July 18, the event marks the launch of the club's new youth programme, which is open to children entering Year 7 and above.

The team takes its name from the famous US Navy Seabees, who were based at Countess Wear during the Second World War and represented Europe in the 1945 European Baseball Championships, with matches played at Exeter City's St James Park....

Record demand for 11th Dartmoor Classic cycle challenge

Huge demand for the 11th Dartmoor Classic cycling event, which will take place on Sunday 2nd July 2017, has resulted in sell outs for all three routes, with places for the Medio route (67 miles) and Grande route (107 miles) being snapped up in record time.

An estimated 6,000 riders attempted to register for the 4,000 available places, which pits participants against themselves in a ride of endurance across some of Dartmoor’s most spectacular routes. Places for the two longer routes were all taken within the first 24 hours, while the last few places for the 37 mile Piccolo were...

Chiefs sign up Fijian flyer Matawalu

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Niko Matawalu can add some real ‘X-Factor’ to his backline after he today agreed a deal until the end of the season.

The Fijian international will head to Sandy Park from Aviva Premiership rivals Bath Rugby and will join up with his new team-mates once the current autumn internationals are concluded.

Equally at home either on the wing or at scrum-half, Baxter believes the 27-year-old is a great addition to the Chiefs make-up and is excited at what he can bring to the club moving forward.

“Initially Niko’s...

General manager Daniel Thompson said: “It’s a fun day with a good quality card in prospect and we hope students take up the opportunity.”

In 2014 Unowhatimeanharry finished second in the handicap hurdle and since that outing he has won more than £100k in prize money and was the winner of the 2016...

Exeter City exit FA Cup

Exeter City exited the FA Cup as two questionable penalties were awarded against them at home to Luton Town.

The first spot kick came after 10 minutes when Hatters’ striker Danny Hylton went over in the box trying to get on the end of a through ball. And, while City equalized through Reuben Reid, a second half strike from Glen Rea and another penalty from Hylton gave Nathan Jones team victory.

City manager Paul Tisdale made five changes to the starting line-up, with Ethan Ampadu starting in the centre of midfield alongside Jake Taylor and Reid partnering Robbie Simpson up...

Hendy Honda supports Chiefs player

Exeter Chiefs player Ollie Devoto is assured of an easy ride this season – at least off the rugby pitch – thanks for support from Hendy Honda.

The Exeter dealership has provided Ollie with a Honda HR-V for use in his first season as part of the Chiefs.

“It’s great to have such great support in Exeter,” said Ollie. “Everyone has made me feel very welcome at the club and my sole focus is to play as much as possible for Exeter and play well.”

He said he was grateful for the support of Hendy Honda and enjoying the HR-V. “The Honda is everything I’d want in a car.”...

It may have been Bonfire Night, but Exeter Chiefs hopes of kicking off this season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign with a bang failed to materialise as Harlequins provided the sparkle in the nation’s capital.

The home side proved too strong for the visiting Chiefs, running in three tries through Aaron Morris, Charlie Walker and Luc Jones, while Nick Evans slotted 14 points with his tried and trusted right boot.

Exeter had their moments as they claimed tries through James Short and Elvis Taione, plus five points from young fly-half Joe Simmonds, but they were the only real bright...
