From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Exeter Chiefs star Don Armand admits expectation levels have rightly changed across the board as he and his team-mates prepare to kick-off a new Aviva Premiership season against Wasps this Sunday (3pm).

No longer seen as English rugby’s ‘New Kids on the Block’ – Rob Baxter’s side underlined their growing emergence within the game last season, advancing to the last eight of the European Champions Cup for the first time, as well as narrowly missing out on a first-ever Premiership title to Saracens.

The development of Devon’s finest has been talked about far and wide, but much...

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is supporting Devon County Council in hosting Stage Six of the Tour which sets off from Sidmouth’s Esplanade at 11.30am, and winds along 150 km (93 miles) of...

Plenty to ponder for Baxter

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter admits he will have a number of selections headaches this week after his side wrapped up their pre-season programme with a 32-16 win at the Dragons.

Having already accrued victories over the Scarlets and Ulster Rugby on home soil, the Aviva Premiership made it a full house thanks to a powerful second half display at Rodney Parade.

Winger Olly Woodburn helped himself to a hat-trick of tries on the night, while there were further touchdowns for hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie and centre Ollie Devoto.

Although satisfied to round things off...

Contentious penalty costs Exeter City

Contentious penalty gives Portsmouth all three points at St James Park. A contentious penalty from Gary Roberts saw Portsmouth take all three points from St James Park on Saturday. The veteran striker slammed home the spot kick in the 85th minute after Pierce Sweeney had been adjudged to have pushed Kal Naismith in the box.

However, the City players were less than pleased with the decision, with Sweeney booked for his protests.

City made three changes to the side that played Hull City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, with Bobby Olenik, Connor Riley-Lowe and Ollie Watkins...

Exmouth teenager wins regional sport award

Seventeen-year-old Yasmin Nelmes has been named Devon’s Satellite Club Participant of the Year in recognition of her outstanding commitment to taking part in community sport.

The award ceremony will take place on 8th Sept at Exmouth Community College sports hall, where Yasmin will be presented with her award by a representative from the national Sport England team.

Satellite clubs – a National Lottery funded Sport England initiative – are extensions of community sports clubs, which use different venues such as a secondary schools or colleges to offer a range of sports to...

Chiefs continue unbeaten run

Exeter Chiefs will head into the new Aviva Premiership season with an unblemished record from pre-season after they chalked up a third straight win (16-32) against the Dragons.

A strong second half display from Rob Baxter’s side saw them pull clear of their Welsh rivals, who for at least half of the game, put up a more than creditable fight at Rodney Parade.

In the end, though, the Chiefs had too much in the tank and with in-form winger Olly Woodburn (pictured) helping himself to a hat-trick of tries on the night, it was a satisfying outcome for the Devonians who added...

Chiefs side to face Dragons

Rob Baxter says his Exeter Chiefs side must ready themselves for a “full blooded” encounter when they travel to Newport this evening in their final pre-season friendly against the Dragons at Rodney Parade (7:30pm).

Having warmed up with home wins over Scarlets (45-3) and Ulster Rugby (25-19), Baxter is hoping this final engagement will serve as the perfect warm-up for his players ahead of their Aviva Premiership opener at Wasps on Sunday week.

And unlike the two previous games, the Chiefs will travel with a more refined playing squad – similar to that of a normal match-day...

Exeter City out of EFL cup

Jake Taylor scores a stunning goal as Grecians exit EFL Cup to Premier League Hull City. Two goals from Adma Diomande and a Ryan Snodgrass free-kick saw Exeter City knocked out in the second round of the EFL Cup 3-1 at the hands of Hull City. A battling performance from the Grecians saw them go toe-to-toe with the Premier League side for the much of the match, but were undone by some smart finishing from the Tigers.

Diomande, the only player who looked likely to unlock the City defence, got two goals either side of half-time from close range, and substitute Snodgrass finished well...

Sir Bradley Wiggins confirmed for Tour of Britain

Sir Bradley Wiggins will race in the Tour of Britain in less than two weeks time.

And it could be the last time Devon gets to see the cycling superstar in a competitive race.

Sir Bradley, the 2012 Tour de France champion who recently won his eighth Olympic medal taking Gold in the Team Pursuit in Rio for Great Britain - and setting a new world record - alongside Owain Doull, will ride in Britain’s biggest professional cycle race for his own Team WIGGINS.

Team WIGGINS, which includes Doull and Jonathan Dibben, will join the likes of Mark Cavendish, Andre Greipel and...

Heritage event and talk at St James Park

Share your Exeter City stories and memorabilia and learn a bit about the early history of St James Park.

On Saturday 27 August, ahead of the Portsmouth match, some of the team working on the Heritage Lottery Fund supported History of St James Park Project will be in the Grecian Centre to hear from fans about their own memories and experiences of the stadium.

There will also be some historic ECFC objects on display and fans are invited to bring their own objects, in a kind of Antiques Roadshow style.

Then at 1pm, Aidan Hamilton, the author of ‘Have you Ever Played...
