Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Exeter City Football Club has begun the season brightly, with success both on and off the pitch.

They’ve achieved some great results in their early matches, and are also benefiting from the new branding and sponsorship of their ticket booth with the Exeter Lettings and Property Management agents Kirkham Gould.

Marketing and football are all about formation and positioning. When Saturday comes, the Grecians’ fans can’t miss the logo and corporate branding of the Exeter Lettings and Property Management agents: it’s placed on the busy ticket office near the main entrance to...

Jack Yeandle says he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates will need to “rise to the challenge” when they tackle Montpellier in Sunday’s European Champions Cup fixture.

Having kicked off their campaign with a 24-15 victory over Glasgow Warriors last Saturday, the Chiefs will now make their way across the English Channel for an equally testing assignment against the star-studded French outfit at the Altrad Stadium (2pm).

Unlike the Chiefs, Montpellier suffered defeat in their opening fixture, going down 24-17 at Leinster, but they did manage to claim an all-important losing bonus...

Grecians slip to defeat at St James Park

Exeter City slipped to a 4-1 defeat at home to Luton Town at St James Park in Sky Bet League Two.Goals from James Collins, Dan Potts, Danny Hylton and Harry Cornick did the damage for the visitors who were ruthless as they struck three quick-fire goals just after half-time when the scores were level at 1-1, after Jake Taylor levelled the match with an excellent finish.

The Grecians, who had access for the first time to the new changing room facilities in the IP Office stand, made one change from the side that earned a hard-fought point away to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend, as the...

On Sunday 15 October 2017 thousands of runners took part in the Great West Run half marathon in Exeter and amongst them was a team of runners from Hospiscare.

TeamHospiscare35 was initiated by Dr Becky Baines and Dr Jenny Hayes. Both work at Hospiscare and wanted friends, families, colleagues and supporters to run together to celebrate the organisation’s 35th anniversary, raise awareness and fundraise on behalf of the local charity.

One member of the team, Emma Gray, 40 from East Devon, had a very personal reason for running with TeamHospiscare35.

Emma explained: “...

Rob Baxter had called for his Exeter Chiefs side to “stand and deliver” and they did just that as they kicked off their European Champions Cup campaign with a hard fought victory over Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park.

Tries from forwards Harry Williams, Jonny Hill and Sam Simmonds paved the way for Exeter’s success in this Pool 3 opener, while Gareth Steenson completed the job by adding a further nine points with the boot.

Exeter’s win - only their second-ever in the first round of the Champions Cup - was certainly a notable scalp against a Warriors side, who arrived in Devon...

Grecians claim a well earned point at Adams Park

Wycombe Wanderers 0 Exeter City 0

Exeter City claimed a well-earned point against fourth-placed Wycombe Wanderers after a tight affair at Adams Park.

Both sides struggled to create a clear opening in early stages of the game, but City needed to put in a strong defensive showing in the second half to secure a valuable point away from home.

City boss, Paul Tisdale, made two changes to the side that beat Carlisle United 1-0 last time out as Jordan Tillson came in for the injured Luke Croll, and Dean Moxey made his first away league start of the season in place of Lee...

Rob Baxter insists the only target he has given his players ahead of their European Champions Cup campaign is to deliver “six Exeter Chiefs-type performances”.

A simple message of sorts, but one the Chiefs’ Director of Rugby is keen to see implemented, particularly as Exeter have too often been found guilty of sluggish starts against Europe’s elite clubs.

Tomorrow night, the reigning Aviva Premiership champions have the chance to kick-off the new season in style, playing host to rivals Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park (7:45pm).

In what should be a mouth-watering...

Newcastle may have flew South flying high in the Aviva Premiership, but the in-form Falcons ended up having their wings clipped by defending champions Exeter Chiefs in this Round Six encounter.

Rob Baxter's side returned to the top of the table with another maximum haul at Sandy Park.

Aussie duo Nic White and Lachie Turner both got on the try-sheet, as did man-of-the-moment Sam Simmonds, with the Chiefs sealing victory with a penalty try and 12 points from the boot of fly-half Gareth Steenson.

However, it's perhaps an indication of just how hard the Chiefs judge...

Grecians claim a hard fought win over Carlisle United

Carlisle United 0 Exeter City 1

Exeter City claimed a hard fought 1-0 win over Carlisle United at Brunton Park thanks to Pierce Sweeney’s second-half header.

The defender did well in a crowded penalty box to rise and nod in from close range to give City all three points against a Carlisle side that battled to the end.

As the Grecians returned to League Two action, following their outing in the Checkatrade Trophy in midweek, Paul Tisdale made two changes to the side that beat Morecambe 4-1 last weekend at St James Park as Hiram Boateng and Lee Holmes came in for...
