Grecians claim a hard fought win over Carlisle United

Carlisle United 0 Exeter City 1

Exeter City claimed a hard fought 1-0 win over Carlisle United at Brunton Park thanks to Pierce Sweeney’s second-half header.

The defender did well in a crowded penalty box to rise and nod in from close range to give City all three points against a Carlisle side that battled to the end.

As the Grecians returned to League Two action, following their outing in the Checkatrade Trophy in midweek, Paul Tisdale made two changes to the side that beat Morecambe 4-1 last weekend at St James Park as Hiram Boateng and Lee Holmes came in for...

Exeter forwards coach Rob Hunter says the Chiefs are fully prepared for the threat posed by Newcastle Falcons, who visit Sandy Park in tomorrow’s Aviva Premiership encounter (3pm).

Five weeks into the new season and the North East outfit have been the talk of the town, after a stunning start which has seen them net four victories from five starts to date.

Second in the table, level on points with leaders Northampton Saints, the Falcons fly South this weekend looking to add the scalp of the reigning champions, who themselves are looking for an instant pick-me-up following...

Chiefs fail to tame fearsome Tigers

Gareth Steenson rescued a losing bonus point for Exeter Chiefs as the defending Aviva Premiership champions suffered a second bout of travel sickness at the hands of Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

With the clock up and the visitors staring at a pointless afternoon in the East Midlands, the ever-reliable Irishman was able to dispatch a crucial penalty to at least salvage something from a tough day at the office for Rob Baxter’s side.

For the Tigers, though, it was a third successive top flight victory and saw them move up to fifth in the standings, four points adrift of...

Exeter City 4 Morecambe 1

Exeter City returned to winning ways after a comfortable 4-1 win over Morecambe at St James Park in Sky Bet League Two.

Two goals from Jayden Stockley, as well as goals from Troy Brown and Dean Moxey sealed an excellent victory for the Grecians as they impressed in front of a home crowd.

The Grecians made two changes from Tuesday’s defeat to Notts County as Lee Holmes and Troy Archibald–Henville were replaced by Moxey, who made his first start of the season, and Luke Croll.

The game was just one minute old when Reuben Reid attempted...

Rob Baxter has told his Exeter Chiefs to ‘keep it simple’ ahead of tomorrow’s crunch Aviva Premiership encounter with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road (3pm).

Three successive bonus point wins have put the defending champions top of the pile after four rounds of battle, but Director of Rugby Baxter knows this weekend will provide another stern examination for his in-form side.

As history dictates, the Tigers have shown their colours more than once, establishing themselves as the most decorated club side in English rugby history. Such accolades don’t come easy and Baxter...

Lachie Turner insists he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates can expect to face a ‘massive challenge’ when they lock horns with rivals Leicester Tigers in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership encounter at Welford Road (3pm).

The defending champions and table-topping Chiefs will arrive in the East Midlands looking not only to maintain pole position in the standings, but build on a run of form that has seen them collect five points in each of their last three league fixtures.

The latest success story came last Sunday at Sandy Park, where Rob Baxter’s side put to bed Wasps 31-17 in the...
