Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

As Exeter Chiefs chase a fourth successive appearance in the Anglo-Welsh Cup final, skills coach Ricky Pellow insists lessons have been learnt from past experiences within the competition.

Despite reaching the past three finals, the Chiefs have lifted the trophy just once, that was back in 2014 against Northampton Saints, and have since narrowly lost to Saracens and Leicester Tigers in the subsequent years.

It’s a statistic Pellow and his players are keen to balance up this year, but overcoming visiting Newcastle Falcons on Sunday at Sandy Park (1pm) will be no easy task...

In a tight affair Dean Moxey gave the Grecians the lead with a left footed finish before the visitors rallied and levelled the match in the second half through substitute Ashley Nadesan.

Can Exeter win automatic promotion? A look at their run in

Just 13 games now stand between League One and League Two for Exeter City. The run in is here and it’s going to be an exciting few months for Paul Tisdale’s men.

The Grecians haven’t had much luck of late after having a number of games postponed . That leaves them having played the least amount in League Two, two or three behind most of their promotion rivals.

They face Carlisle tomorrow in a game where they will be wanting to push back into the playoffs, so it won’t be easy. They’ll be seeking revenge after last year’s Playoff Semi Final and it’s going to be a thrilling...

Chiefs 24 Saracens 12

The effects of the 'Beast from the East' and 'Storm Emma' may have melted away as quickly as it came, but Exeter Chiefs showed they are more longer lasting in terms of their title defence as they extended their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership.

Rob Baxter's side are now seven points clear of Wasps at the summit after they saw off fellow play-off contenders Saracens 24-14 with a hard-fought display at Sandy Park.

Three first half penalties from fly-half Joe Simmonds, plus a try from full-back Phil Dollman, gave the hosts a slender 14-12 advantage at the break as the...

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter has called for another step up in standards from his side as they prepare to welcome Saracens to Sandy Park on Sunday (3pm).

The varying effects of ‘Storm Emma’ and the ‘Beast from the East’ have meant the Round 17 clash in this season’s Aviva Premiership has been put back by 24 hours, but Baxter is none the less readying his troops for a key encounter between the league’s top two sides.

Buoyed by a return to winning ways last weekend against Northampton Saints, now the Chiefs leader is looking to use that success as the...

Two more Chiefs players commit their futures to the club

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after two more of his current squad today committed their futures to the reigning Aviva Premiership champions.

Back-row forward Dave Ewers (left) and centre Max Bodilly are the latest names to put pen to paper on new two-year deals that will keep them at Sandy Park until at least 2020.

Both products of the club’s highly successful academy set-up, Baxter has spoken of the importance of nurturing homegrown talent and developing them into high quality players, all of whom are capable of performing at the...
