Exeter Sea Bees launch free youth baseball open day

Young people across Exeter are being invited to discover America's favourite pastime this weekend as the newly formed Exeter Sea Bees hold a free open day for aspiring baseball players.

Taking place on Saturday, July 18, the event marks the launch of the club's new youth programme, which is open to children entering Year 7 and above.

The team takes its name from the famous US Navy Seabees, who were based at Countess Wear during the Second World War and represented Europe in the 1945 European Baseball Championships, with matches played at Exeter City's St James Park....

Brentford's Chiedozie Obgene signs for City

Exeter City have signed Chiedozie Ogbene on loan from Brentford until January.

Chiedozie, 21, has made two Championship and one EFL Cup appearance for the Bees after joining the West London club following a successful spell at League of Ireland Premier Division side Limerick. The winger, who scored eight goals in 34 games at Markets Field, is known to City through assistant manager Eric Kinder who worked with the player at Limerick. He is eligible to play for both the Republic of Ireland and Nigeria at International level and won the FAI Cup Cork in 2016.

Exeter’s rising cycling star George Pym says that racing in the Tour of Britain through his home county next week will be one of the highlights of his professional career so far.

George Pym, 24, will be riding in the Tour of Britain from Sunday 2 September – Devon Stage 2, takes place on the following day on Monday 3 September.

Stage 2 will be hosted by Devon County Council and supported by East Devon District Council and North Devon Council.

A prestigious international karate seminar will come to Ottery St Mary next month, hosted by East Devon’s SYTL (Say Yes To Life) Karate Club. Six men will be embarking on a 670-mile cycle trip across Europe next month, with the help of Exeter City FC, in memory of a friend and to raise much-needed funds and awareness for three charities.

The six cyclists – Steve Christie, Christian Webber, Mark Reece, Pete Wallington, Mark Holmes and Rich Cook – will peddle from Portsmouth to Munich on Wednesday, September 19. Residents, commuters and visitors to Barnstaple on Monday September 3 are advised to leave more time for their journey as the Tour of Britain returns to the town.

Starting in Cranbrook, East Devon, the race covers 174km (108miles) of Devon countryside before finishing in Barnstaple town centre - and large numbers of spectators are expected to visit on race day.
