Two Tribes, two times British Champions
The night belonged to Exeter at the Butcombe British Skittles Championships at the weekend when Exeter’s Two Tribes team successfully defended their mixed team title in a last minute comeback. They beat their rivals by just three points but it was enough to lift the coveted silverware for the second year running at the championships held in Torquay.
Two Tribes captain Barry Powell said he saw the match slipping away to their Gloucestershire rivals, Satellite’s Scorching Hoppers and managed to rally the troops.
‘We kept our nerve and got through it,’ he said. ‘It’s a fantastic feeling not just winning, but winning again.’
Meanwhile the Saints also from Exeter put on their best ever performance to come runners-up in the men’s competition. In their past eight year history of qualifying for the finals, they had only managed a second round place until now. Captain Dave Rowe was disappointed but said it was a case of just one match too far. They were beaten by the Highwaymen from Worcester who picked up a record third title in the mens’ competition.
