Harriers Under 17 Men’s Team win team gold at Westward League

Last Sunday Exeter Harriers took a team of 17 athletes down to Plymouth for the final Westward Cross Country League fixture of the season. Going into the event there was still were still overall positions up for grabs in the junior events.

Matt Dowell won his second Westward League race of the year to help the under 17 men finish 1st overall with a consistent set of results in a time of 21.29. This was also good enough for him to finish second overall in the individual standings. Matthew Penny was next home for the team, finishing in a league best position of 4th in 23.24.

Craig Moncur again showed his talents across a wide range of events to finish 1st in the under 11 boys race in 5.54, with William Penny just behind in 3rd in 6.00. Josh Cann was 5th in 6.12 followed by Cameron Bryson in 6th in 6.15. In the under 11 girls race B Caldwell finished an excellent 3rd in 6.58.

Only two senior men competed for the club, to complete a disappointing season and unfortunately unable to regain their team trophy which has now gone to Cornwall AC. James McClaren finished 32nd in 36.00 and Adam Stobbs was 41st in 36.43. In the senior women’s race Katherine Humphries continued her comeback from injury with a respectable 12th place in 26.59.

The under 15 girls were again able to field a team at the fixture and were rewarded with 2nd place overall for the league. In this fixture Phoebe Killen finished 4th in 12.55, Lauren Coleman was 10th in 14.03 and Josie Crosby 11th in 14.19. In the under 15 boys race Ollie Coldwell was the only representative from the club in a small field and finished 4th in 11.23. This result was good enough to secure 3rd place for the team.

In the under 13 girls race Sophie Burden was 14th in 11.31, Runa Manby 16th in 11.51 and Courtney Howard 21st in 14.38.

Congratulations to everyone who competed for the club in the league this season, there was certainly a lot of promise from the juniors.

Meanwhile in Bath, Jake Waldron took part in the Bath Half Marathon against a high standard field. Jake ran brilliantly well to smash his personal best by 2 and a half minutes to finish in 15th place in 70.22
