Exeter School is delighted to host the South West Championships which will qualify athletes for the National Series 2019 and provide an opportunity for participants to gain a GB ranking and Super League points.

The event is open to all - from children aged 11 upwards to adults - novice and experienced - and will be hosted by British Shooting and the South West Target Sprint network on Saturday 11 May.

This is the third year the South West qualifying event for the National Series 2019 will be held at the co-educational independent school.

Last year's event attracted over 30 entrants and was a huge success. The event combines three 400m runs interspersed with two sessions with air rifle target shooting at biathlon style knockdown targets.

The Target Sprint events programme is organised by Georgina "Gorgs" Geikie who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. She is keen to encourage anyone interested to take part and have a go.

"We have two race types - the National Series and Super League with the only difference being the size of the targets," Gorgs explained. "The National Series races are run over the slightly larger targets and ideal for new and novice athletes to the sport, but also provides an excellent competition opportunity for all. The top five athletes in each category will also qualify for the National Series Final held near Bristol in September.

"The Super League races are run over the slightly small targets and offers the opportunity for athletes to gain a GB Ranking time and Super League Points.

"We have male and female individual categories throughout the day which cater for all. Youth is for 11-15 year-olds, Junior for 16-20-year-olds, Senior is for 21-45 and 46yrs +.

"No experience is needed, we can provide all the equipment and a little coaching on the day."

Exeter School Director of Sport Andy Mason said he was delighted to host the event and give young people from across the region a chance to try a new physical activity.

Anyone interested can sign up for the event which takes place at Exeter School from 11am on Saturday 11 May via Eventbrite:
