With the start of the World Cup nearly here, England fans are eager to see how the Three Lions perform. By facing opponents such as Belgium, Tunisia, and Panama, England shouldn’t have problems progressing with the exception of the difficult match against Belgium. However, Gareth Southgate's team is looking much better than before and by giving the captain honors to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane, they are obviously planning on the prolific attacker to lead England to glory.

Kane is a real gem. He's the deadliest striker England has had probably since Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney later. He's already bagged 13 goals in 24 appearances for the national side and his incredible growth over the last few seasons has led to him being appointed the captain of this young England team.

Team spirits are certainly high ahead of the World Cup, with Kane himself believing that England has what it takes to reach the later stages. Unfortunately, bookmakers aren't giving the Three Lions great chances for winning the tournament, but at least they're tipped to progress from Group G. You can have a look here if you're interested in seeing how well England fares ahead of the World Cup.

The good news is that England may top at least one table at the tournament – the goalscoring table. Harry Kane is one of the favorites for the Golden Boot and rightfully so. The Tottenham star has been in sublime form this season and will be looking to continue with his great performances in Russia.

There hasn't been an England striker like Kane since Wayne Rooney's unfortunate dip of form. Kane is yet to bag a major international tournament goal (having scored none at the Euros and U-21 tournaments), but he's confident enough to break his tournament duck this summer. With 30 goals in the previous Premier League term behind his name, we're sure he'll be up to the task.

This time, Harry Kane will also captain Southgate's side. As one of the youngest captains in the history of the Three Lions, many think he'll crack under the pressure, but Kane is adamant that he can work through it.

He'll definitely need to – after all, he's being given the highest honors a player can have in a national side. It's not just about the title – Kane needs to lead the way by example as others will look up to him. It's a good thing that he has quite the resume behind. His goalscoring prowess is what makes him a great choice for captain. He'll most likely play all the matches from the beginning to the end and lead England's attack, hopefully bagging goals as frequently as he does for Tottenham.

Kane seems like the perfect choice for captain and a reasonable choice for the tournament's top scorer. He perfectly fits the gaffer's low-key approach and if the team finds him in dangerous positions, Kane will no doubt grab the chances to score. If we were planning to bet on the top goalscorer of the tournament, Kane would be our choice.
