Exeter and the county of Devon are lucky enough to have some of the best golf courses in the South West of England. Whether you regularly play a round of golf or play the sport occasionally through the summer, there is something for everybody.

Here is a look at some of the leading courses in Exeter, all of which are available to book regardless of your level.

Exeter Golf and Country Club

File A guide to the 18 hole golf course at Exeter Golf and Country Club

A new golf course opened in 2016 at Exeter Golf and Country Club and since then it has received fantastic reviews. It is a par 69 and consists of 6,018 yards, It is a good test for elite golfers, while at the same time, beginners will enjoy the layout.

In professional golf, Augusta National Golf Club is one of the most admired courses in the world. It will host the US Masters again in April where Jon Rahm is the favourite in the golf betting odds at 9/1. In many ways, Exeter Golf and Country Club has so many similar features to Augusta which are to be admired. There are mature trees, water features and fairways which are perfectly maintained. If you like aesthetically pleasing golf courses, there are few better than this Devon venue.

Exeter Golf and Country Club is good enough to host a professional event so hopefully, we do see it on the European Tour in the future. It would be fascinating to see how some of the best players on the tour, like the world number one, Rahm, fare on the testing course.

Exminster Golf Centre

Set across the Devon countryside, Exminster Golf Centre is in a fantastic location. It features over 55 acres of land, it is a par 66 course and the length is 5,112 yards. The course offers pay and play and annual membership. The latter is a great option if you play regularly.

This golf course is known for having excellent drainage so if you don’t mind getting wet, it remains playable in most conditions. The water features are natural and lead to two lakes in the county, while the views you get across the 18 holes are magnificent.

There is also the option to warm up before you go on the course on the 16-bay floodlit driving range.

Woodbury Park Hotel & Golf Club

The Oaks Course is part of the Woodbury Park Hotel and Golf Club. The 18-hole course spans across 7,314 yards and it is a par-18. If you enjoy playing long courses, this is one for you. Don’t worry if you don’t strike the ball as far as Bryson DeChambeau off the tee, the course has rolling fairways so your ball goes a little further than most venues.

The greens at this course are European standard. There is also a nine-hole course if you don’t have time to play a full round. If you want to work on your game while you are at the venue, there is a teaching studio that uses advanced technology to help you improve your technique.

Enjoy yourself the next time you hit a golf course in Exeter. Hopefully, you end up with more birdies than bogies on your card.
