Exeter City fancied to keep rolling against Forest Green

Exeter City host Forest Green Rovers on October 12 aiming to continue their excellent start to the League Two season.

A long unbeaten run saw Exeter’s League Two betting odds to win the title slashed to 6/1 and they will fancy their chances of picking up another three points against Forest Green.

City will undoubtedly be hoping to build on their early season results after what has been a frustrating few years for the club.

They missed out on promotion after losing in play-off finals in 2017 and 2018, before being denied a place in the end-of-season shoot-out on the final day last term.

Exeter are generally tough to beat at St James’ Park and have been in fine form on home soil during the current season.

They were impressive at home against Port Vale during September, with goals by Ryan Bowman and Lee Martin securing a deserved 2-0 victory.

Bowman, Martin and Nicky Law have been regular scorers for City this season and Forest Green’s defence will need to mark them closely.

The visitors look like they are also capable of mounting a promotion challenge, despite finding goals difficult to come by during the early part of the new campaign.

Forest Green conceded just five goals in their first 10 matches this term and are usually tough to break down.

They recorded two goalless draws during September and will be out to make things difficult when they visit Exeter.

Forest Green were successful on their last visit to St James’ Park back in October 2018, with goals by Reece Brown and Liam Shephard sealing a 2-1 victory.

That result was something of a surprise, with Forest Green drawing three and losing four of their previous seven visits to Exeter.

The two sides last met at Forest Green back in May, with a 0-0 draw denying Exeter a place in the end of season play-offs.

Forest Green went on to be beaten by Tranmere Rovers in the play-off semi-finals, but appear to be showing no ill-effects from that defeat.

However, the home side have looked a decent side during the early part of the season and are strongly fancied to secure a victory in this one.
