Duguid joins the Chiefs Women’s ranks
Abby Duguid has signed a contract to join Exeter Chiefs Women.
The Canadian international arrived just in time to watch her new team beat Trailfinders Women in the first round of the new PWR season.
Formerly of Loughborough Lighting, Duguid has plenty of PWR experience at both lock and in the back row.
Exeter Chiefs Women’s Steve Salvin said: “With Edel’s (McMahon) unfortunate injury ruling her out for the season, we needed to bring someone in of international class to maintain our squad depth.
“Abby is an outstanding back-five player with significant PWR and international experience and is a great addition to our group.
“We have a strong tradition of signing Canadian internationals and we are extremely happy to have another one on our books for the coming season.”
Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Duguid joined Lightning in 2020, where she played with DaLeaka Menin. She made her debut for Canada in 2022 against USA and went on to secure two more caps for her country.
She headed back to her homeland to play for the Nor’Westers Athletic before returning to play for Loughborough ahead of the 2023/24 season.
A qualified teacher, Duguid said: “I’m really looking forward to this new experience in the PWR. The league has grown tremendously, in both the quality of play and fan support, and it’s something every player wants to be part of.
“I feel very fortunate to have been considered by the Chiefs and joining them was an easy decision. From day one, I’ve been met with professionalism and genuine enthusiasm.
“I believe my style of rugby fits well with where the Chiefs have been and where they’re heading. I can’t wait to contribute in any way I can to an experienced side. This group is hungry for big things, and I’m just excited to be back in the mix and get my boots on the ground.”
