Charity ball in aid of Action against Medical Accidents

Over 180 guests joined St John’s Chambers, the largest Set in the South West with over 80 barristers at their charity ball in aid of ‘Action against Medical Accidents’ (AvMA). The event raised more than £6,000 for the independent charity, which promotes better patient safety and justice for people who have been affected by a medical accident and is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Earlier this year the chambers organised a golf day at The Bristol Golf Club sponsored by Withy King raising £4,000, giving a total of over £10,000 for AvMA.

Brewin Dolphin & Francis Clark host fundraising seminar

A team of professionals from two leading Exeter-based businesses co-hosted a joint tax and investment seminar at Sidmouth Pavilion in aid of Sidmouth Hospiscare.

Celebrating their 250th anniversary, wealth management investors Brewin Dolphin joined forces with Francis Clark the largest accountancy practice in the South West. The seminar focused on accountancy, financial planning and investment management aimed at retired individuals with pensions and those looking to transfer investment cash and income.

Over 70 decision makers from the local business community attended the autumn Business Networking (SW) lunch held at The Lord Haldon Hotel, Dunchideock. Guests were welcomed with a glass of wine and enjoyed a two-course sit-down lunch followed by a presentation from Chris Wood of Q Social Media Limited. There was also a free pre-lunch seminar on The Courts System hosted by Richard Blair, Partner at WBW Solicitors, Exeter.

Pinhoe Jubilee Club celebrates its 125th anniversary

A milestone was reached Saturday last when the Pinhoe Jubilee Club celebrated its 125th anniversary, placing it amongst the oldest social clubs in the country.

To celebrate the anniversary, the club held a fancy dress party with members and guests rising to the challenge with costumes of all kinds on display, with a prize – an 1887 silver farthing – for the best. After attendees cast their vote, the winners were Peter & Diane Mitcheson (Pictured).

More than 400 visitors attended the inaugural Business Expo ‘Business Gives Back’ organised by thebestofexeter in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust held at Exeter Racecourse. Tim Jones, Chairman of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership gave the opening address and delegates had the opportunity to visit local business exhibition stands and seminars presented by key-note speakers plus 1:1 business clinics in ‘The Business Advice Centre’. Exeter Contemporary Open 2012 Winner Announced

At an exclusive awards ceremony and exhibition opening at Exeter Phoenix last night, Olivier Larivière was announced as the recipient of the main £1000 award for the Exeter Contemporary Open 2012. The judges – artist S Mark Gubb, independent curator Paula Orrell and Phoenix gallery curator Matt Burrows faced a tough decision to select three award winners from the nine exhibiting artists. Olivier's paintings however, a series of images depicting people handling wild animals, were seen to stand out as particularly strong.

Bicton hosts first joint event for Jubilee Federation

Students from Broadhembury and Branscombe primary school enjoyed a fun-filled activity day at Bicton College to celebrate the merging of the two schools.
