'St Gudula' stands by the River Swincombe on Dartmoor

Ancient Holy Well Forms Centrepiece for new Dartmoor Community Pageant

The spirit of a medieval saint will be evoked in a new community ritual for Dartmoor, which aims to reconnect people with water and the land.

St Gudula’s Well in Ashburton, an ancient holy well, will be the focus of the ceremony, which will honour water as the source of all life, and also celebrate the start of summer.

‘Gudula’s Gathering’ has been conceived by events curator and writer Kirsteen McNish, and Helen Bruce of the Dartmoor Preservation Association, as the closing event for the Dartmoor Tors Festival.

Sapphire Living 'shaken but not stirred' for Bond night

Last week, Sapphire Living hosted a glamorous evening of canapés and cocktails for its Bond-themed Night, including cars fit for 007 himself from Grange Aston Martin Exeter, not to mention exotic food demonstrations from co-author of the River Cottage Fish Book , Nick Fisher. Both Bang & Olufsen and SingleSwitch were on hand with some gadgets and home automation systems to give Q a run for his money. The successful event attracted approximately 60 people.

There was a veritable buzz of excitement as ladies who have been shortlisted for the NatWest Venus Women Awards gathered for a networking event at the Magdalen Chapter hotel. Hosted by Celia Delaney, the Awards' Devon organiser, and Tara Howard, founder of the Venus Awards, this was the perfect opportunity to meet old and new acquaintances and share news. It was revealed tonight that there had been over 1,400 nominations made, a clear indicator of the collaborative nature of the way in which we do business in Devon.

Guests enjoyed an evening of colour and cocktails at luxury kitchen and bathroom showroom Sapphire Living Space.

Owners Mark Newbery and Ross Pollard teamed up with Exeter's Gloss art gallery and Magdalen Chapter Hotel to stage the VIP event.

The pair organise regular themed nights in collaboration with other local business at their 3,500 sq ft showroom, opposite Darts Farm in Topsham.

Guests sipped on a specially-created 'Sapphire' cocktail and admired work by artists including Yvonne Coomber, Louise Davies and Isobel Osborne.

Business Network (SW) celebrates 20th Anniversary with original founder-members

A South West networking organisation celebrated its 20th anniversary at an organised lunch held in Exeter. Nearly 100 members of the Business Network (SW) joined current owner Sean Humby together with special guests, founder members Jim and Jackie Enright. Magician and original Business Network (SW) member Mark Leveridge acted as MC for the event held at Sandy Park.

Sean Humby took over the business in 2007 and today has 149 members across the South West region with membership retention of 89%. The turnover of £85,000 is up by 13% on last year’s figures.

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce held their monthly networking lunch at the Mercure Southgate Hotel, Southernhay on Wednesday this week.

The speaker at this event was Paul Thomas, Head of Trading Standards. Paul gave an update on trading standards delivery at a national, regional and local level with particular focus on how regulation can support the local economy rather than prove to be a burden on business.

More than 70 local businesses and professionals were welcomed with wine and canapés at a networking event organised by Chartered Accountants Haines Watts in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity at Sapphire Living Space.

Guests enjoyed complimentary hand massages with Molton Brown and watched cookery demonstrations by Chef Nick Crosley from V-Zug of Switzerland. Sarah Daniels of FORCE gave a presentation and a charity raffle and lively auction with Chris Bentley of Exeter Chiefs raised over £1,600 for the charity.

Opening Day for the new TABS Training centre

Approximately 30 people attended the Opening Day of the new TABS Training Centre in Exeter, including the Lord Mayor Councillor Rob Newby who officially opened the centre. There was also representation from local businesses and charities supporting the Opening Day.
