New leader and deputy at County Hall

Devon County Council's deputy leader is set to become the new leader of the authority.

James McInnes has been chosen by the ruling Conservative group to replace John Hart. Long-standing Cabinet member Andrea Davis will become deputy leader.

The changes are set to be ratified at the council's annual meeting on Thursday 23 May.

Mr Hart is being nominated to become chairman of the council at the same meeting.

Mr McInnes represents Hatherleigh and Chagford and is a retired farmer from West Devon. He is married with a daughter.

Police probe unexplained deaths

Police, fire and ambulance attended a property in the village of Dalwood, near Axminster, East Devon at around 3.10pm on Sunday 10 May.

On arrival they discovered a 58-year-old female and 64-year-old male, both were deceased.

Detective Inspector Gregg Dawe from the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a 58-year-old female and 64-year-old man who were found in a property near the village of Dalwood in East Devon on Sunday.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is asking people across Devon to comment on its draft proposals for new county council division boundaries.

An eight-week public consultation on the recommendations begins today and will end on 6 July 2015. The consultation is open to anyone who wants to have their say on new county council electoral divisions, division boundaries and division names across Devon.

Motorcyclist seriously hurt in A376 crash

Police were called to the scene of a serious collision at Ebford last night, Monday 11 May.

Officers attended the A376 at Ebford at 8.30pm after the collision between a Vauxhall van and a Suzuki motorcycle.

The male motorcyclist was taken via ambulance to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with serious injuries which are considered life changing.

The road was closed until 2am while investigations took place at the scene.

YMCA Exeter residents sign for Bristol City

Three men from YMCA Exeter have completed the Homeless FA training Centre programme at Bristol City Football. Nathan Tuley (22), John Oliver (20) and Rhys Feeney (19) found out about the Training Centre programme through YMCA Exeter, who provide Supported Accommodation for young homeless people.
