Award-winning Devon dementia champion and advocate turns years of experience into second book

An award-winning dementia champion, advocate and author is drawing on more than a decade of experience to publish her second book, When Time Aligns: Stories of Care from a Dementia Companion , this October.

Gina Awad has spent more than a decade championing better understanding of dementia and supporting people living with the condition, their families and carers. Ron’s Daleks raise cash for charity

A multi-trade craftsman at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised hundreds of pounds for local charities thanks to his unusual sci-fi hobby.

Dedicated Doctor Who fan Ronald Munns, from the hospital’s Estates Department, has been building incredibly realistic Daleks in his shed at home in Pathfinder Village. He initially started building the Daleks for fun in his spare time using scraps of wood and leftover materials, however soon realised they could have a more charitable purpose.

Exeter City heritage project ends with packed film premiere

The year long Heritage Lottery Fund supported History of St James Park project came to an end with a packed film premiere at Exeter City’s stadium on 27 April.

The 51 minute movie documents each of the decades since football was first played on the ground in 1894. Contributors include historians, club officials, former players, fans and first team manager Paul Tisdale.

Moretonhampstead gardens open for charity

The spring flowers in Moretonhampstead gardens Sutton Mead and Mardon must have loved the driest winter for decades.

The colours of the apple blossom, wisteria, rhododendrons and azaleas have never looked better. Both of these four acre gardens will be open in aid of The National Garden Scheme on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 19, 20, 21 May. 2-6pm.

There will be a sale of plants raised in the gardens and delicious homemade teas. Parking is available at both gardens and for anyone wishing to combine their visit with a walk on the moor, dogs on leads are welcome.

Rainbow House Three opens in Exeter!

Following four years of fundraising, planning and renovation, local charity Rainbow Living has officially celebrated completion of their third Rainbow House by opening the house up for a special preview.

Supporters turned out in force as the charity’s Trustees and Board greeted over 200 guests during the 2-day event. Trans-Pacific Coxless Crew rows into Exeter

Four women who rowed 8,000 miles from the San Francisco in the United States to Cairns in Australia unsupported will share their remarkable story at a film screening and question and answer session at the University of Exeter on Wednesday May 17 2017.

The Coxless Crew ( http://coxlesscrew.com/ ), as they are collectively known, spent nine months – or 281 days – at sea in a 29 foot rowing boat called Doris, facing extreme mental and physical challenges. They raised over £65,000 for Walking With the Wounded and Breast Cancer Care.

Conservatives extend majority control of Devon County Council

The Conservatives have won control of Devon County Council for the third time in a row.

The Conservatives won 42 of the 60 seats on the new authority with Labour and the Liberal Democrats winning seven seats apiece and three Independents and a Green being elected.

There was an overall turnout of 40.2 per cent of the 601,797 eligible voters.

Thousands set to tackle Ten Tors challenge

Thousands of young people will set off on the 2017 Ten Tors challenge this weekend, spending two days in small self-sufficient teams walking through some of the most stunning scenery Dartmoor has to offer.

Alongside the Ten Tors Challenge, hundreds of young people with special needs will take part in the Jubilee Challenge.
