Physiotherapists at Crediton Hospital were excited to receive a new Rehabilitation Bicycle thanks to support from a local charity.

The bicycle, which was purchased for the hospital by the Crediton Hospital League of Friends, is specially designed to be easier to use for adults who have musculoskeletal and neurological impairments. In relation to the UK government’s immigration policy, only 26% of adults in the South West think of international students as immigrants. The findings were revealed in a new poll conducted by ComRes for Universities UK. Alarming new figures from Network Rail and British Transport Police reveal more people than ever are risking their lives on the rail network by trespassing on the tracks in the South West. The data, which looks at trends over the last five years, shows trespass incidents are at all-time high in the region, while nationally one person trespasses and dices with death every hour. Three private hire vehicle drivers in Exeter have been prosecuted for illegally picking up fares on the street. The prosecutions follow a joint operation by Exeter City Council, the Police and Vector Transport Consultancy on 22 October 2016. By law, private hire vehicles – unlike taxis (hackney carriages) – can only transport customers if the trip is booked in advance. Only hackney carriages can pick up fares on the street. The investigation into the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez, which relates to spending at the 2015 General Election, will be referred to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Virgin Media today announced that homes and businesses in Devon will be next to benefit from an ultrafast broadband and entertainment boost.

County Council sets out highway maintenance programme

Devon County Council’s Cabinet has approved the authority’s programme of highway maintenance for the financial year.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded the Council £51.4 million for its capital budget in 2017/18. This includes allocations from the Pothole Action Fund, National Productivity Investment Fund, Incentive Fund and Challenge Fund, which will be used for planned structural maintenance on Devon’s 8,000 miles of roads - the biggest highway network of any authority in the country.
