The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

FASHION photographer Mark Sanders is aiming to put motor neurone disease firmly in the spotlight with a sale of images from 100 of the biggest names in photography including Devon-based photographers Jem Southam, Robert Darch and Brendan Barry.

Mark, from Exeter, whose mum, Lin, died from motor neurone disease (MND) earlier this year, has pledged to raise as much as possible on behalf of the MND Association which supports people living with the disease across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Libraries Unlimited’s popular The Secret Book Quest is being launched in libraries in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

The Quest, which is available both as a free sticker-booklet and an online programme, has so far helped over 10,000 children across Devon and Torbay with their reading.

Guide Dogs for the Blind in Exeter and District will benefit from more than £500 raised by Bloor Homes at the launch of a new Country Park at the housebuilder’s Bloor Homes at Pinhoe development.

New pilot service launched to reduce drug-related deaths

Local pharmacies are working with Public Health Devon to pilot a new service aiming to reduce the number of drug-related deaths in the county.

The authority’s latest figures show that there were 185 drug-related deaths in Devon from 2020-2022.

Devon County Council already funds a range of initiatives that help prevent harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs.

But now the council is also looking to work with a number of high street pharmacies in specific locations to help prevent deaths caused by overdose of illegal opiates, such as heroin.
