Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

Householders are urged to be on their guard following reports that fraudsters, falsely claiming to be trading standards officers, are operating in Devon and Somerset.

Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service says that the fraudsters have been knocking on doors and 'advising' residents that they can obtain a refund and compensation following poor work carried out previously.

The resident is then told by the officer that for the claim to proceed £1000 must be paid into a specific bank account, the details of which are provided by the fake officer.

Maternity staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust are set to benefit from a £41,000 funding boost which will enable the Trust to deliver further training to improve maternity safety.

The RD&E has received a share of over £8m through Health Education England’s (HEE) Maternity Safety Training Fund, which is being distributed to all NHS Trusts in England on behalf of the Department of Health.

A leading housebuilder has contributed around £2 million towards a new school in Exeter.

Charles Church South West has revealed it has handed over the hefty cheque to Devon County Council as part of its Great Woodcote Park development off Admiral Way.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision between a car and a six-year-old girl in Teignmouth.

Emergency services were called at 4.55pm yesterday [4 April] after the collision between a Ford Ranger pick-up and the child in Bitton Park Road near to First Avenue.

The girl, from Teignmouth, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Bristol Royal Infirmary. Her injuries are not believed life-threatening or life-changing.
