Guitar indie-pop band Pale Waves and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon are the latest acts heading to the south Devon countryside for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

The bands are joining the line-up for seven-time GRAMMY Award winning Canadian / American artist Alanis Morissette ’s headline show with special guest musical powerhouse Skunk Anansie at TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham on Friday June 26.

He’s spent 22 ½ years fighting crime and now former Devon police Sergeant Jim Humphrey has launched a war on grime.

For Jim has taken over the South West region of Ecocleen Services, a national franchise which offers a range of services including cleaning up to an industrial scale.

Countdown to the 11th Dartmoor Classic begins

The countdown to the eleventh annual Dartmoor Classic Sportive, which takes place on Sunday 02 July, is on, and organisers are looking forward to yet another successful event.

Up to 3,500 riders will participate, with entrants travelling from as far as Australia, Brazil, France, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Bulgaria, the USA, Canada, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Spain, Italy and Ireland.

Motorists urged to be vigilant after spate of vehicle crimes in East Devon

Honda Accords were targeted over the weekend, as car parts were removed and almost £5,000 worth of tools were stolen from two vans.

Between 5.30pm on Sunday 18 June and 8am on Monday 19 June an exhaust and a catalytic converter was cut off a blue Honda Accord that was parked in the Fraser Road area of Exmouth. Another catalytic converter was stolen with another having been removed from a bronze Honda Accord in the Moormead area of Budleigh Salterton during a similar time-frame.

Exmouth police are also investigating after thieves’ targeted vehicles over the weekend period...

Exmouth fly tipper fined for dumping domestic waste

An Exmouth woman has been fined more than £1,400 for fly tipping in a successful prosecution brought by Environmental Health Officers from East Devon District Council.

Jill O'Donnell who was living at Waverley Road, Exmouth when the offence took place pleaded guilty and was fined £1,451. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £145. Exeter Magistrates reduced her fine by 10% after taking her circumstances to pay into account.

The magistrates were told that Ms O'Donnell dumped more than 20 bags of domestic waste and some old carpets in the service...

Entire Seaton Down Hoard on public display for first time

On Saturday 1 July, the 22,888 coins of the Seaton Down Hoard will be on public display for the first time.

The coins were buried in the ground on Seaton Down around AD 350 and discovered in November 2013 by metal detectorist Laurence Egerton. They will be on permanent display in the Making History gallery at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM).

Conservation work began on the coins in July 2016. Talks, Roman Roadshows, museum events, special workshops, gallery tours and other events have been enjoyed by over 15,000 people from Devon and further...

New boundaries confirmed for district council wards in East Devon

Final recommendations have been made for the electoral arrangements of East Devon District Council, following a review carried out by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

The recommendations, which can be found online at: https://consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/8778.t , propose that East Devon should be represented by 60 district councillors in the future: one more than there is at present. “There is no place in Exeter for hate crime.” That’s the message from Exeter’s Community Safety Partnership.

The message of zero tolerance comes as Exeter has experienced four incidents of religiously motivated hate-crime within 10 days.

Willow the donkey meets residents at Exeter care home

Staff at RMBI Home Cadogan Court in Exeter, have teamed up with The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, to bring some interesting animals to meet with residents. The donkey handling team brought Willow, the miniature donkey, with them to the care home on Barley Lane on Friday 23 May. Willow has a calm nature and has been trained to go down corridors. He visited residents in different parts of the Home with his handlers, and enjoyed eating ginger biscuits and carrots. Local girl Abbie Baker has earned herself a place in the finals of Miss Sensational UK after winning her title Miss Devon Sensational UK, where she will stand alongside girls from all over Great Britain. The grand final is being held on the 2nd December 2017, at the Fairlands Community Centre, Guildford where Abbie Baker will undergo a series of interviews and on stage rounds including fashion wear and evening wear.
