Nello cyclists have special reasons for taking part

FORCE Cancer Charity’s largest annual fundraiser – The Nello bike ride – is less than two months away and cyclists from across Devon and around the country are gearing up for the big day on Sunday June 28.

Since the first Nello Century Cycle Challenge in 2000, the ride has raised £1.5million for Exeter-based FORCE, which works locally to support anyone affected by cancer, face-to-face and close to home.

The charity has set a target of raising £127,500 from Nello 2026 to meet the increasing demand for its unique services.

Devon Air Ambulance’s Ride Out returns

Devon Air Ambulance’s annual Motorcycle Ride Out is returning to the Den, Teignmouth, on Sunday 9th July 2017 with an afternoon of live entertainment from 1pm. This event is free for all to attend in support of Devon Air Ambulance (DAA).

DAA have a great line up of local bands including Littermouth, Five Finger Discount, Thick as Thieves and The Rock Section, with tech provided by Big Bear Recordings.

Old photos discovered in Killerton’s roof inspire call for memories for time capsule

A collection of old camera negatives tucked away inside the roof of Killerton House, near Exeter in Devon, have been discovered during a major roof repair project.

Over 30 negatives, possibly hidden by the Acland family in the 1920s to be found years later, have inspired staff to create a time capsule and the National Trust property is calling for people to send in their memories of Killerton to be included.

Police appeal following multiple assaults in Exeter

Police have launched an appeal for victims to come forward following a mass assault in Exeter.

Police received reports of a disturbance in Exeter City Centre at around 3am on Saturday 22nd of April. Units attended and after a short chase, two men aged 30 and 27 were arrested on suspicion of affray; the 27-year-old has since been released with no further action to be taken against him.

Exeter-based waste management company Devon Contract Waste is celebrating the launch of its new £1.2 million Distribution Hub on Matford Business Park.

The construction of the 1.2 acre facility has been supported by the South West Growth Fund with a grant of £80,000, and ensures the company continues to drive its market leading position as the only provider of Zero to Landfill services in the South West.

Countryside team offers exciting new events this summer

East Devon District Council’s Countryside team is working with a number of partners to deliver some new wellbeing events this summer.

As well as favourites such as rock pooling and bug hunts, the Countryside team is offering outdoor classes in Tai Chi, editation and yoga at local beauty spots.

The first of these wellbeing events is an introduction to Tai Chi, which takes place on the Maer, in Exmouth, on Saturday 1 July from 9am to 10am. This course is repeated on Saturday 19 August at Seaton Wetlands.

Young people are falling foul of scams which target them through their social media accounts, The Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards Service has warned.

Many young people have been conned into providing personal data or into responding to modelling and talent scams via pop-ups on social media accounts like Instagram and Facebook.

The Dissenters Graveyard will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 8th July.

Visitors can view the near-completely restored Graveyard, now dignified with gates and railings; inspect transcribed copies of many of the grave inscriptions and will be able to read short biographies of some of those buried there.
