Second stage announced for TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham

An exclusive second stage is being added to Devon’s biggest music event this summer – with a host of extra artists joining the line-up.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham takes place across the weekend Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28 with headline shows from Teddy Swims , Alanis Morissette and Lewis Capaldi.

And now additional artists will take to the festival’s all-new Castle Green Stage , performing from 2.30pm each day as gates open as well as after each headline artist.

New street art improves look of community hub

Three former offenders have helped to brighten up a previously dull car park at a community hub in Exeter.

The group, who are all being supported by Dorset, Devon and Cornwall Community Rehabilitation Company (DDC CRC) as part of their sentences, have taken part in a street art course as they look to pick up new skills. £1,000 donated to help children with cancer

Children who are treated for cancer at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are set to enjoy a variety of new toys for their outdoor play area thanks to a £1,000 donation from the St George’s Masonic Lodge in Exeter.

The donation has been made by the Lodge in memory Jennie Wortham who spent six years under the care of the Paediatric Oncology Team on Bramble Ward before she died of neuroblastoma in November 1997.

County councillor fund boosts Exeter charity for the homeless

Exeter’s Devon County Councillors have used their community budget to support St Petrock’s, Exeter’s charity for people who are homeless.

All nine City County Councillors contributed towards a £1,935 grant to enable St Petrock’s to purchase a new oven, which is now in service, providing weekday hot breakfasts and lunches to people in need.

Last year, the charity provided 9,727 meals from its centre kitchen, enabling its project workers to build engagement with individuals who are homeless and those at risk. The money was contributed from the Locality Budgets of Councillors...

RD&E staff raise over £490 for FORCE Cancer Charity

Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised over £490 for local cancer charity FORCE after fundraising at their annual Extraordinary People Awards evening.

The ‘Winner of Winners’ event, which was held in May at the Research Innovation Learning and Development (RILD) building, was a celebration of all the extraordinary RD&E staff who go the extra mile for patients and colleagues every day. Exeter Northcott Theatre is delighted to announce that celebrated actor David Suchet will perform in its 50th anniversary gala in November.

David is an Olivier and Emmy Award winner, best known for playing Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot having starred in all 74 television movies over 25 years. Suchet has also starred in numerous films and television series internationally whilst also maintaining an impressive theatre career.

The East Devon District Council's countryside team will be celebrating International Bat Weekend with two night-time events to spot bats.

Bat events are taking place across the country to mark the weekend which is happening from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 August.

The countryside team is running events in Cranbrook and Seaton where participants can hope to catch glimpses of these nocturnal creatures.

Work begins on new Alphington Road crossing

Work on a new staggered signal-controlled crossing across Alphington Road, which will help vulnerable pedestrians access the retail park, started on Monday (14 August).

The Devon County Council (DCC) scheme, on the north side of the Sydney Road/Alphington Road Retail Park junction, will cost £110,000 and take approximately six weeks to complete. Alphington Road is one of the busiest routes by traffic volume in Exeter, and typically there are 1,000 vehicles an hour in each direction.
