As thousands of runners prepare to take on the Great West Run on May 24th, a local startup is ensuring they don’t spend the next week in pain.

Race Home , a specialist running and recovery brand founded in Exeter, has partnered with the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel to launch a high-tech "Recovery Pod." The pop-up sanctuary will offer "Pulsio Pro" compression technology—usually reserved for elite athletes—to local charity runners and club athletes alike.

Police make drugs arrests at Powderham Lockdown event

Devon and Cornwall Police say there were a number of drug-related arrests linked to Lockdown event at Powderham Castle over the weekend, but there were no reports of sexual assaults at what was a largely peaceful event.

Chief Inspector Adrian Leisk, who is in charge of the policing of the event, said: “Lockdown was largely trouble-free with only a couple of assaulted related arrests throughout the weekend.

Almost 33,000 days of additional imprisonment imposed on inmates in the SW last year

Prisoners in jails in the South West region were handed a total of 32,829 days – almost 90 years – of additional imprisonment for breaking prison rules last year.

Research by the Howard League for Penal Reform reveals today (Monday 4 September) that prisons are routinely and increasingly resorting to draconian punishments in a counter-productive attempt to regain control.

Crews tackle double decker bus fire

Fire crews tackled a blaze in a double decker bus in Exeter last night.

The Fire Service Control Room received numerous calls report a large vehicle fire and two appliances from Exeter were mobilised to the incident.

Crews located a double decker bus well alight and immediately got to work using two breathing apparatus and two compressed air foam jets. All passengers were free and clear of the vehicle.

Steady progress was made with the fire, the vehicle was 70% destroyed by fire 2500l of water and 14l of foam was used to extinguish the fire.

Motorcyclist who died following Telegraph Hill collision named

A man who died following a collision on the A38 on the outskirts of Exeter has been named.

Daniel Harrison, aged 36 from Exmouth was involved single vehicle collision on the A380 Telegraph Hill, Kenford.

Mr Harrison was riding a blue Honda motorcycle when at around 6:35pm on Wednesday 30 August, he was involved in a single vehicle collision.

He was treated at the scene before being taken by Ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where shortly after arrival he was pronounced deceased.

Work required on Topsham Lock

Work needs to be carried out to an old disused lock on Exeter Ship Canal, the City Council has revealed. Steel sheet piling which was installed in the early 1970s to prevent the waters of the Canal escaping into the River Exe is showing signs of age and needs to be repaired. A more detailed inspection including ground investigation and access improvements which will lead to remedial work has been authorised to take place this month, under delegated powers. The Dissenters Graveyard in Exeter will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September as part of Heritage Open Days.
