Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

Devon & Cornwall Police have seen a rise in illegal vapes, where the vape liquid has been replaced with Class B drugs THC (the active compound in cannabis) and spice (a synthetic cannabinoid). Due to the levels of these controlled substances in the vapes being unknown, the risks to teenagers taking these substances present health risks which are uncertain and have led to hospitalisations in other parts of the country.

Crowdfunder and the RSPCA have teamed up to launch #EveryoneForEveryAnimal, a new campaign to create a better world for every animal.

Nearly 60 RSPCA branches across England and Wales have launched their own fundraisers to raise money for their own animal welfare projects in their own communities. Many of the branches have also included unique rewards for their supporters as part of their fundraisers, from tours of their centre and RSPCA branded items.

Chicken fans queue over 16 hours for Popeyes® Exeter opening

Chicken lovers queued for over 16 hours for the much-anticipated opening of the new Popeyes ® Exeter restaurant on the High Street yesterday morning.

The launch day saw the New Orleans inspired brass band, ‘The Brass Funkeys’, welcoming guests as doors opened to the brand-new space which can seat over 120 people.

In celebration of 50 years, Hospital Radio Exeter recorded their special celebration show from Cumberland Grange Care Home to honour Jo one of Cumberland Granges residents who was one of the very first volunteers to set up and start Hospital Radio Exeter.

The power of friendship is pushing Devon police trainer Andy Elliott in his bid to complete the London marathon in a wheelchair.

Although able-bodied, Andy decided to tackle the 26.2 miles in a standard wheelchair to support his close friend Andrew Russell who was paralysed in a diving accident over 25 years ago.

Staff from West Exe School and the Ted Wragg Trust attended a fundraising quiz for the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival this month.

Devon awarded more than £7m to deliver Electric Vehicle charging points

Devon County Council (DCC) has been awarded more than £7m* of Government funding to support its delivery of thousands of new, publicly accessible, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points across the county over the next few years.

The capital funding comes from the Department for Transport’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund.
