Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

Nun's Cross Path backed by Dartmoor Walking Festival

Following the success of Dartmoor Walking Festival 2017, Moorland Guides have generously donated £500 of the proceeds to the National Park's Donate for Dartmoor scheme.

The money will be used to carry out essential continuing repairs to Nun's Cross Path. The festival ran from Saturday 26 August to Sunday 3 September, with a programme packed full of events for all ages and capabilities.

Firefighters call for cuts to agenda to be dropped on anniversary of Cathedral Yard fire

On the anniversary of the blaze that ripped through the historic Cathedral Yard area of Exeter last October, firefighters in the region are calling for an end to dangerous fire service cuts. The fire caused massive damage before being extinguished, and placed huge demands on the resources of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service who sent 150 firefighters to put the fire out.

A group of volunteers are carving out a reputation for growing some of the best pumpkins in Devon, just in time for Halloween.

Members of the Exeter Community Garden have recently harvested their sun ripened pumpkins, having sown the seeds for their successful crop in the summer.

Devon County Show’s handmade poppies go on show at Exeter Cathedral

More than 30,000 handcrafted red poppies made to mark the centenary of the First World War at the Devon County Show will go on display at Exeter Cathedral.

The exhibition opens on Monday (October 30) and runs until Tuesday, November 14.

Thousands of local people supported the ‘people’s tribute’ to the 11,500 Devon men and women who died in the Great War by creating 34,000 poppies.

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted assault in Exeter.

At around 9:45am on Wednesday 25th of October, a disturbance took place in the vicinity of Polsloe Bridge, Monks Road and Hamlin Lane, Exeter

Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to this incident which is believed to have involved two men and a 17-year-old woman.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone that may have seen a dark coloured vehicle, possibly a VW Polo or a Golf in the area during this time.

Devon residents go batty for science this summer

Hundreds of people in Devon have surveyed their gardens for bats this summer as part of the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project.

The 2017 Devon Bat Survey has been the biggest yet with 600 unique locations surveyed, from Seaton to Plymouth and Salcombe to Combe Martin.

Participants in the survey - which this year runs until the end of October - collect their bat detector and ultrasonic microphone from one of 20 monitoring centres across Devon, including shops, garden centres and community hubs.
