The Hidden Strain of Dementia Support Systems

When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Over the past few years, families have reached out to me for support during incredibly vulnerable times. In one situation, a family approached me specifically for guidance and advocacy.

FORCE Cancer Charity celebrated the end of its 30th anniversary year with a Back to the 80s Christmas party that attracted businesses, organisations and groups of friends from across the South West.

A world-renowned violinist and a former head of the UK Supreme Court will receive honorary degrees from the University of Exeter on Saturday (16 December).

Spending boost planned for adult social care, children and health in Devon

More money will be spent on adult social care, health and children’s services next year if Devon County Council’s target budget is agreed in February.

The council’s powerful Cabinet approved the target budget for 2018/19 today, (Wednesday).

It will have to be ratified at the Budget meeting in February.

The target budget calls for an extra £13 million to be spent on adult care and health. That’s a rise of over 6 per cent and would take the total care budget to £227.8 million.

A dig which unearthed the remains of a Bronze Age burial on Dartmoor in 2011 has been nominated for a prestigious archaeology award.

The discovery of a unique collection of Bronze Age grave goods on Whitehorse Hill was made by archaeologists working for Dartmoor National Park Authority on Wednesday 10 August 2011 while excavating a prehistoric burial situated at over 600 metres above sea level on Dartmoor.

SWASFT raise over £20,000 for Young Lives vs Cancer

The staff from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has been supporting CLIC Sargent since 2008 raising £23,927.52 for young lives vs cancer through the Pennies from Heaven Scheme.

Over 4000 members of staff from the trust took part in the Pennies from Heaven Scheme, which meant that their wages were rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies being donated to CLIC Sargent. A community-minded sports officer at the University of Exeter has won an award for setting up a free fitness session in a city park.

Paul Mouland, who works in the Sports department at the University, won a DevonLive Community Honours award after setting up Freemoovement in Barton Fields Park, St Thomas in May in his own time.
