Devon Young Carers shine at the 2025 Young Carers Festival

Seventeen young carers from across Devon have enjoyed a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities at the largest festival in the world dedicated to young people with unpaid caring roles.

It’s the 25th year that Devon Young Carers has attended the Young Carers Festival at YMCA Fairthorne Manor at Botley in Hampshire. Four dedicated staff members, one volunteer, and one inspiring Adult Young Carer accompanied them on a two-night adventure packed with connection, laughter, and discovery - a well-deserved break from their day-to-day caring roles at home.

Exeter BID lights up the city

For the second year in a row, Exeter Business Improvements District (BID) will hold the city’s Christmas lights switch on event with a huge party for all the family to enjoy scheduled to take place in Princesshay Square on Thursday 16 November.

As well as live music from local musicians, the evening will mark the official switching on of Exeter’s city-wide festive illuminations and kick off the first of six Thursdays leading up to Christmas, when shops will stay open until late.

There’s a new bike on the streets of Exeter this autumn and it’ll be arriving at a school near you soon!

The bike in question is a very special three-wheeler and it belongs to local nature charity, Devon Wildlife Trust. Council meets with Network Rail to review outline design for next phase of Feniton Flood Alleviation Scheme

Progress is being made on Phase 3 of East Devon District Council’s Flood Alleviation Scheme for Feniton.

The council and its rail consultants, WSP, met in September with Network Rail to review the outline design, construction and maintenance methodology for the next phase of the project, which will involve placing a 1m diameter pipe (approximately 3 feet) beneath the railway to the east of the village.

Exeter and Teignmouth blood cancer patients unite to host charity walk along Exe Estuary

Exeter man Jamie Lynde is joining forces with Brett Grist from Teignmouth to host the ‘Exeter Walk’, a beautiful 10-mile walk along the Exe Estuary Trail next month (Sunday 15 October) for blood cancer research charity Bloodwise. Dogs living in the South West of England are more likely to have longer walks than the national average, according to a new survey.

The survey, of more than 3,000 dog-owners across the country, showed that 38% of dogs have a walk of longer than an hour, compared to 35% nationally.

The survey was commissioned in the lead up to the RSPCA’s Big Walkies challenge in October, which invites people to walk 10,000 steps a day, with or without a dog, to raise money for animals in need. The results also found that 22% of dogs in the region have three walks a day - while almost 7%...
