Devon Air Ambulance lands on playing field to treat casualty

The Devon Air Ambulance landed on a village sports pitch this lunchtime.

Crews attended a property in Bow where they treated a male casualty.

They were joined by colleagues in a land ambulance and spent around 40 minutes on the scene.

The casualty was flown to hospital at around 12.40pm.

Three jailed following vicious Dawlish robbery

Three men have been jailed at Exeter Crown Court (13th October) following a robbery in Dawlish, where the victim was sprayed in the face with ammonia.

Paul Rowntree aged 36 from Dawlish was jailed for 19 years; Rikki Ward aged 28 from Sunderland was jailed for 15 years 3 months; and Ross Morton aged 29 from Dawlish was jailed for three years for their role in the attack and robbery that took place in Dawlish on Monday 30 January 2017.

Team FORCE all set for the Great West Run

FORCE Cancer Charity will have 144 people running for them in Sunday’s Great West Run.

FORCE is one of the event’s partner charities and is hoping to raise £30,000 from this year’s race.

Oly Watts, FORCE Fundraising Development Officer said: “The Exeter Great West Run is a fabulous event to get behind and support. The run gives for our supporters an opportunity to give something back to FORCE whilst taking on this amazing challenge. Many of whom are taking part for the very first time.”

Councillors back latest bus station proposals

Coucillors in Exeter have highlighted plans to progress the long-awaited redevelopment of the city’s bus station site.

At an Extraordinary Meeting at the Guildhall on Thursday night (12 October), they backed a recommendation to close the existing bus station by the end of February 2018 at the latest.

Passengers will be dropped off and picked up on street during the closure, which will allow for a new bus station and major new leisure complex to be built.

The City Council plans to re-tender for a contractor to build these projects, which it is funding, next spring....

Summer rain leads to bumper apple crop for cider making

Orchards on the Killerton estate are bursting with apples this autumn and the National Trust rangers and volunteers have been busy harvesting them in time for their annual cider and apple festival on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October.

The frost in May caused concern that the orchards might be bare this autumn but the summer rain has meant the orchards are full of apples, including some varieties like the Killerton Sweet, Killerton Sharp and Star of Devon which are unique to this small area.

People will be able to find out what’s being done to help those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness at a drop-in event in Exeter on Friday 13 October. The event is being held at Exeter Guildhall between noon and 2pm as part of Homelessness Awareness Week. Thugs rob man of mountain bike and phone in Exeter

Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Exeter where a man was set upon and his distinctive mountain bike stolen.

The man was cycling home along Cowick Street between 00.05am and 3am on Friday 29 September when he was assaulted by at least two people . They took his mountain bike, iPhone and a men’s balance trainer.

The victim, a 33-year-old man from Exeter, sustained facial injuries in the robbery which happened somewhere between St Thomas Pleasure Ground and Wardrew Road.

Exeter building society staff urge people to donate socks for homeless

Yorkshire Building Society colleagues in Exeter are asking the community to sock it to them by donating new pairs of socks to help keep homeless people warm this winter.

The Society is running its month-long Socktober appeal throughout October as part of its charity partnership with End Youth Homelessness (EYH).

Donations of new pairs of socks, plus other items such as woolly hats, gloves, scarves and toiletries can be made at the Exeter branch, on the High Street.
