Increased credit card limits cause bigger problems

Major new research by the Citizens Advice service finds that nearly 1 in 5 people struggling with debts have had their credit card limit raised without them requesting it - a practice the charity would like to see banned.

After the Bank of England issued a warning to lenders about how they are granting credit to consumers, leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, says poor affordability checks by firms are making people’s financial situation worse.

Consumer borrowing has risen to over £200 billion and over a third of this - £67 billion - is on credit cards....

The wait is almost over. The hour is very nearly at hand.

Sunday (29 October) will see this year’s epic 7.5-mile Jolly Good Jaunt walk from the Deer Park Hotel through the breath-taking beauty of the autumnal East Devon countryside. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Community Fund to donate £1,000 for winter project

Community groups, charities and schools in the Exeter area are being invited to apply for £1,000 worth of building materials to help with a winter project as part of RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund.

Whether materials are needed to build a Christmas grotto, help put on a pantomime, or ensure a community centre is protected against winter weather, RGB would like to hear about it.

Communities in Exeter are being invited to nominate a space to receive a makeover as part of a new campaign launched today.

‘Tiling for a Good Cause’ is being hosted by online retailer, TileTrader.co.uk and is calling on the public to nominate a space in their local area in need of a tiling makeover*.

Projects could include the refurbishment of a space, for example a bathroom at a care home or the creation of a feature, such as a mural for a sensory garden within a local community centre.

Over 35 professionals from the parent, alumni and friends of Exeter School body conducted almost 200 work style interviews in one day.

Hedgehogs living in the grounds of a Devon school will sleep in style this winter thanks to local housebuilder David Wilson Homes which has donated a hogitat to Tipton St John Primary School.

A family are desperately trying to find a much-loved pet who has been missing in the Whipton area since last week.

'Pedro', a small chocolate brown chihuahua with tan markings, ran off from Sweetbriar Lane (EX1) at around 3pm on Wednesday 18 October.

There has been one possible sighting on Honiton Road.

The three-year old dog is microchipped and neutered, and has not been separated from his brother since birth...

Skate fans are to get a new skate park in Exeter.

A new facility is to be built at Arena Park and skaters are being asked to help choose the design by taking part in an online survey.

The old facility was recently broken up and removed after it had become rotten and dangerous. The Council had been hoping to prolong the life of the old facility but it proved beyond repair.

On Tuesday (31 October), Exeter’s Red Coat Guides will be running their annual Spooks & Broomsticks tour of the city.
