Devon Young Carers shine at the 2025 Young Carers Festival

Seventeen young carers from across Devon have enjoyed a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities at the largest festival in the world dedicated to young people with unpaid caring roles.

It’s the 25th year that Devon Young Carers has attended the Young Carers Festival at YMCA Fairthorne Manor at Botley in Hampshire. Four dedicated staff members, one volunteer, and one inspiring Adult Young Carer accompanied them on a two-night adventure packed with connection, laughter, and discovery - a well-deserved break from their day-to-day caring roles at home.

The RD&E’s Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC) has celebrated its 90th birthday after being opened by royalty in 1927.

PEOC was opened by the Duke and Duchess of York on 16 November 1927 to help children with debilitating diseases such as tuberculosis and polio. The Duchess named PEOC after her daughter Princess Elizabeth, the present Queen, who was just 18 months old at the time.

Killerton, near Exeter, has been transformed for Christmas with Wind in the Willows and Father Christmas arriving this week to begin the festive celebrations.

The recently uncovered house will be open from Saturday 25 November and will transport visitors into Kenneth Grahame’s mystical world of Toad, Ratty, Badger and Mole as the story of Wind in the Willows is told.

Bridge lift completed ahead of schedule

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the M5 at Exeter has successfully been lifted into place over the weekend.

The 60-metre span Tithebarn Lane bridge was positioned alongside the existing overbridge, just north of Junction 29 of the motorway, overnight on Saturday (18 November) evening. It took 3.5 hours to fully rig the 750 tonne crane and the bridge lift started at 12:30am. Since staff voted Macmillan Cancer Support as their first charity partner in January 2016, Inchcape Retail has raised an incredible £110,000 and counting.
