Exeter students set to ‘Sail Against Plastic’

A team of students and staff from the University of Exeter are set to embark on an 12-day voyage to measure pollution including micro-plastics in the Arctic.

The goal of the expedition, named Sail Against Plastic, is to discover the impact of non-visible pollution, such as noise pollution or micro-plastics, on marine life.

The trip, to the icy waters surrounding Svalbard in the Arctic Circle, will produce vital information on the build-up of toxic pollutants in marine food chains.

A partnership of EDP Drug & Alcohol Services (EDP), Devon Doctors and Devon Partnership NHS Trust (DPT) has been successful in its bid to deliver drug and alcohol services in communities across Devon. The contract with Devon County Council, which could potentially run for up to nine years, will launch 1 April 2018.

The University of Exeter has been named as one of the top-200 best employers in Britian for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff.

The University has climbed more than 100 places to 163rd in the high-profile rankings, published by leading charity Stonewall on 31 January.

A retired pottery shop owner with early Alzheimer’s disease has said research has given him a new hope for life.

Eighty-year-old Martin Wallis, from Honiton, is currently taking part in a clinical trial at Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

Wolborough Street in Newton Abbot will be closed during half term next month for major road works.

Registration for the 2018 Devon Open Studios event has now opened and artists and craftspeople in the county are invited to get involved.

Devon Open Studios is the largest annual art event in the county attracting more than 34,000 visits to artists’ studios each year.
