Celebrate International Dark Sky Week at a Dark Sky Event on Tuesday 17 April, organised by Dartmoor National Park in association with the Department of Physics & Astronomy from the University of Exeter.

Both the importance of maintaining a night-time environment without uncontrolled outdoor lighting and the sheer joy of witnessing a natural night sky will be explored at this event with hands-on activities as well as opportunities to view the night sky under the expert tutelage of the University of Exeter.

Starting at 7:30pm at the Moorlands Hotel, Haytor, with an introduction to Dartmoor’s night skies, we will, subject to the weather, take a short walk onto Haytor Down and use binoculars and telescopes to explore the night sky. This is an all-weather event and so if the skies are obscured then we will have a series of films, presentations and further hands-on activities.

Booking is essential for this event as numbers are limited and there is a suggested minimum donation of £5 per person to the Donate for Dartmoor scheme.

For further information and to book a place, please call the National Park Visitor Centre at Haytor on 01364 661 520 or email Haytor@dartmoor.gov.uk

This event also coincides with the opening of the ‘Dartmoor Skies’ photography exhibition at the National Park Visitor Centre, Princetown. Featuring the stunning work of four local photographers, the free exhibition is open daily from 10am until 5pm and runs until Tuesday 5 June 2018.
