Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

Charity team on the road to highlight 21st Race for Life in Exeter

The local event manager joined forces with cheerleaders, Starlights and Exeter Mayor, Cllr Lesley Robson, on Saturday to promote Race for Life and to celebrate its 21st year in Exeter. Seasonal dog ban comes into force

The East Devon seasonal dog ban is now in force. The ban covers all of the town beaches in East Devon, other than some designated areas on each beach.

Dog owners, visitors and walkers are reminded to check on the council website at http://eastdevon.gov.uk/dogs/ if they are not sure where they can take their dog.

Cllr Tom Wright, East Devon District Council’s Environment Portfolio Holder said: “We want to keep our beaches clean and safe for everyone who uses them so even in the "dogs allowed" areas dogs must be kept under control, close by, and on a lead if necessary....

Zoos are all about exotic species – aren’t they? Well, three top local zoos are doing their bit to highlight the importance of native species.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall are aiming to give local wildlife a real boost this year. YMCA launch community wellbeing hub on Newcourt estate

YMCA Exeter have partnered with Exeter Community Initiatives, Newcourt Community Association and Trinity Church to offer a new wellbeing hub at the heart of the Newcourt estate in Exeter.

A new report published by the British Red Cross and Aviva shows that the majority of people in Devon want to help if disaster strikes in their community but would not know what to do. (1)

Preferred options identified for new Okehampton railway station

A feasibility study into a new railway station at Okehampton has identified two preferred options.

The study was commissioned by Devon County Council to inform discussions between Great Western Railway and the Department for Transport in the ongoing efforts to develop plans for the introduction of a service.
