Dementia UK shares the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for ahead of free clinics in South West

Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Hosted by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses, the clinics are open to anyone impacted by dementia, offering life-changing support to families and individuals in the area. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK’s website here .

Teignbridge has a new campaign to help curb fly-tipping and is telling people to ‘check who you pay to take it away’.

Paying someone can seem like the easiest and quickest way to get rid of rubbish, but if you’re not checking out the legitimacy of who takes it away, there’s a big chance it’ll be fly-tipped, and you’re the one who could be fined.

Fly tipping is illegal. It’s dangerous, unsightly and harmful to the environment and affects the quality of life for many residents. In 2016/2017 Teignbridge collected around 500 tonnes of fly-tipped rubbish from 939 incidents...

Planning application for new water sports centre on Exmouth seafront to be considered

A planning application for a new water sports centre on Exmouth seafront will be considered by East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee next month.

The application from Grenadier Exmouth Ltd to build the centre and associated facilities off Queen’s Drive, will go before the committee on Tuesday 5 June.

Grenadier proposes a new two-storey water sports centre, café, restaurant and retail units plus car parking, open space and a ramped access to the beach. The application has the support of Exmouth Town Council and there are 37 letters of objection....

A cheque for £700 has been presented to the Devon Memory Café Consortium (DMCC) by Teignbridge District Council’s former Chairman, Councillor Timothy Golder.

Continuing an annual tradition passed on by each Teignbridge Chairman, money raised by the Chairman’s Charity has come from various events, including a raffle at Teignbridge’s Sports and Community Awards which raised £411 and Teignbridge’s civic service held earlier this year at St John’s Church in Bishopsteignton.

Spacex announces closure

The Spacex board and staff have taken the difficult decision to close the organisation. This concludes four decades of evolving visual arts provision in Exeter, which we hope has provided an open and convivial space for artists to exhibit and experiment.

To mark the closure of the organization and as a provocation to the visual arts sector, Spacex has produced a limited edition artwork/tea towel (pictured above) and accompanying text by Rosalie Schweiker. New gymnastics classes for toddlers launched at Honiton Gymnastics Centre

On Tuesday 5 June Honiton Gymnastics Club is launching a new two-hour session for toddlers and parents (or childminders), giving little ones the chance to make the most of the club’s specialist new equipment.

The classes – which will run from 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday – also give adults the opportunity to have a workout themselves, led by one of the gymnastics club’s instructors.

Directed by one of the club’s pre-school gymnastics specialists, Melissa Pendrick, the session will cost £5 for the first child, £7.50 for two children or £10 for three children.

The winners of the #SnapSeaton photography competition have been announced.

Visit Seaton, an initiative by Seaton Town Council in Devon, ran the competition throughout April and May to encourage visitors and locals to post photos of Seaton on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The photography competition received nearly 200 entries across the social media platforms. On July 7, hundreds of men are set to descend upon Paignton, Devon, to take part in The South West Beard and Moustache Championships – an event that celebrates some of the most elaborate facial hair ever seen! Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is celebrating its volunteers who dedicate their time to solving people’s problems and making a difference to their lives.

Volunteers Week, which runs from 1-7 June, recognises the contribution that volunteers across the UK make, and the charity is highlighting the work of its own team, which helps people in the community struggling with debt, housing, benefit and employment issues among other issues.

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to be supporting Children’s Hospice South West’s charity Rainbow Run by sponsoring its blue paint station.

Taking place on Saturday 9th June at Exeter’s Westpoint, 2,000 runners are expected to take part in the fundraising event and run, walk or jog their way around the 5k course, meeting various coloured paint stations along the way.

Additionally, participants will be able to enjoy the event village where there will also be face painters, music and entertainment, and RGB will be hosting games .
