Work to start on Heavitree Road bus improvements

Improvement work to enhance bus services on Heavitree Road in Exeter will get underway next month (February).

The scheme, which will start on Monday 2 February, involves the construction of a new traffic island and installation of a new set of traffic signals at the end of the outbound (eastbound) bus lane between Grendon Road and Polsloe Road/Barrack Road.

A new basic police command unit will be introduced, covering Teignbridge, Torbay and the South Hams.

This will take the total number of basic command units across the force up to four. These four key units of policing are Cornwall, Plymouth, South Devon and NEW [North, East and West] Devon.

The introduction of this new management position will allow a greater influence over priorities for the local area and a bigger voice for South Devon within the force.

A new exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Tavistock section has opened at the National Park Visitor Centre, Princetown.

Wonford Leisure Centre now has a fully automatic defibrillator for use in cases of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The unit was purchased by Exeter Strollers Walking Football Club which obtained funding from Devon County Council with the support of the county councillor for Wonford & St Loyes, Marina Asvachin. The Strollers, proud wearers of the official Exeter City crest, play at the Centre on Tuesday and Friday mornings and at Exwick Sports Hub on Monday evenings throughout the year. RECORD numbers of swimmers are due to take part in the country's longest running, longest distance, outdoor organised swim this weekend in Devon.
