Cinema-going was so popular among troops serving in the trenches in World War One thousands regularly packed into bombed out buildings near the front line to watch the latest films, new research shows.

There were double the number of military cinemas on the Western front than previously thought, a University of Exeter historian has found. The extent of film-going by troops during 1914 to 1918 has previously been overlooked by historians.

The makeshift cinemas, in abandoned town halls, barns, purpose-built huts or simply in the open air, were often only a few miles behind...

Christmas has come early for the animals at Devon based wildlife park, Dartmoor Zoological Society, following the successful charity prize draw at Exeter Chamber’s Exeter Business Dinner in November.

The guest speaker this year was Benjamin Mee, who in 2006, discovered Dartmoor Wildlife Park which at the time was in severe financial hardship. Benjamin and his family stepped forward to save the animals and the zoo, starting a year-long struggle to get the zoo ready to re-open. They achieved this in 2007, under the new name of Dartmoor Zoological Park and in 2008, Benjamin published...

And a huge Remembrance drape now adorns the house which is the star attraction of the competition.

Many weeks have been spent planning the...
