Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Exeter School Chaplain's head shave raises over £5,000 for St Petrock's

Exeter School Chaplain Revd Tom Carson succeeded in raising over £5,000 for St Petrock's and in return had his head shaved by the Head of History Giles Trelawny in front of a crowd of pupils and staff.

Orphaned donkey foal has new home for Christmas

A week-old orphaned donkey foal has been given a forever home with The Donkey Sanctuary, after its mother died shortly after giving birth. The foal was relinquished into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary by its owner, who wanted to give it the best start in life after its mother tragically died after suffering complications during foaling. Sadly, despite veterinary care and the best efforts of the donkey’s owner, her condition did not improve and the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep. When local business women Emma Ranson Bellamy, owner of fashion chain SNOB, called upon her customers to help women in crisis she was overwhelmed with their generous response.

Emma appealed for her shoppers to fill shoeboxes with beauty goodies to be distributed to vulnerable women in the South West and was astounded when, between her four stores, 90 filled boxes were donated.

A team of volunteers are preparing to leave their own families on Christmas day to answer Childline calls from children who have nowhere else to turn.

The NSPCC’s Helpline and Childline services operate 365 days a year, with trained counsellors poised to take calls from children, and adults who are concerned about a child’s welfare.

Both helplines are free and confidential to call – and demand can often increase over the festive period, when emotions can be magnified.

Around 80 guests attended, including a Deputy Lord Lieutenant, the High Sheriff of Devon and Neil Parish MP

East Devon District Council chairman, Cllr Andrew Moulding, held a Civic Carol Service , at the Parish Church of St Michael in Musbury. The Officiant was The Reverend Hilary Dawson.

On Tuesday 11th December the Devon and Cornwall region of the Lord’s Taverners held their Christmas Lunch at Exeter’s famous Sandy Park. A record-breaking 636 people descended upon the grounds; comprising of local business, organisations and their guests. A lunch of this scale is a first for Exeter.

Through generous sponsorship and donated prizes the lunch raised just over £70,000. That is a fantastic amount and will allow the Lord’s Taverners charity to continue their work of enhancing disabled young people’s lives, through the use of sports such as cricket.

Police appeal after fatal collision in Exeter

Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a car and a pedestrian at around 9.20pm on Saturday 15 December to Alphington Road, Exeter.

The incident took place underneath the railway bridge.
