Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Freemasons in Exmouth have handed a £300 boost to a flourishing charity based in the town that supports suicide bereaved families across Devon.

Members of the Per Mare Per Terram Masonic Lodge No 9355, Tom Devin and John Langford, were welcomed to the Exeter Road HQ of Pete’s Dragons.

They presented a cheque to the charity’s project manager Kate Bedding and were pleased to learn more about the ‘very worthwhile’ cause.

Hospiscare vans and volunteers were out in force last weekend collecting over 500 Christmas Trees across the city.

Exeter residents were able to have their tree collected in exchange for a donation and the initiative raised over £5,000 for the local charity that cares for people who have been given a terminal diagnosis.

Louise Beeken, Head of Fundraising said: “It costs £21,000 a day to run Hospiscare services, caring for people at the end of their life in their homes or at the hospice. We raise this through the generous donations and gifts in wills of the local community....

The Donkey Sanctuary partnered with the Exmouth based charity Pete’s Dragons who support people who have been bereaved by suicide. A tiger at Paignton Zoo in Devon has had a root canal – performed by one very brave veterinary dentist…

The patient is Paignton Zoo’s 11-year-old male Sumatran tiger Fabi, who is over 2 metres long and weighs over 100 kilograms. A Sumatran tiger has 30 teeth, including four very long canines. Canine teeth are important for biting, tearing and eating meat, for jaw architecture and display. As the adult breeding male tiger, animal staff want to make sure he’s in the very best of health for the future.

Exmouth tidal defence scheme gets planning go-ahead

The Environment Agency scheme to reduce the risk of tidal flooding to more than 1,800 properties was granted planning permission on Tuesday by East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee.

This flagship £12m scheme is being funded by Government grant in aid and will reduce the risk of flooding to over 1,400 homes and 400 businesses in Exmouth.

Under the Hybrid application Full Planning Permission was granted for the tidal defence scheme comprising of flood walls, embankments and flood gates for the areas around the Estuary and Camperdown Creek.

A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog fouling and control will be introduced across Teignbridge from 1 April following a decision by Full Council today.
