Councillors to discuss sale of Clifton Hill site and improvements to leisure centres in Exeter

Councillors will discuss improvements to the city’s leisure facilities and the sale of the former Clifton Hill Sports Centre site at a special meeting next week.

Paignton Zoo has bred a species of venomous lizard for the first time. Two Mexican beaded lizards have hatched at the Devon zoo. Incredibly, the moment one egg hatched was captured by Zoo photographer Elliye Stobbart.

This CITES protected lizard (Heloderma horridum) is a venomous species found principally in Mexico and southern Guatemala. Heloderma means "studded skin", and with its dramatic black and yellow beaded body, this predator is quite a sight from the moment it hatches. Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is warning that hundreds of people in the city could still face financial hardship despite changes to Universal Credit announced by the Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd.

Improved toilets for Princesshay

Princesshay has announced a planned refurbishment of its toilets.

The Princesshay toilets in Catherine Square will be temporarily closed for refurbishment from 28th January 2019. Alternative facilities will be available for customers close by in Catherine Street.

The Donkey Sanctuary is celebrating 50 years since it was founded by its inspirational visionary: Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE.

Devon County Council has launched a public consultation on its draft Exeter Transport Strategy.

Work to start on repairing Exeter river bank

Work to strengthen a section of river bank in Exeter which was subjected to erosion before Christmas, is to be carried out over the next few weeks.

Exeter City Council has confirmed that work on the banks of the River Exe at Duck’s Marsh Meadow will start on Wednesday (23 January) and take around three weeks to complete.

In late December, a small section of land close to St James Weir collapsed, taking with it a newly installed park bench. The bench is to be replaced by the Council, further back from its original location.

New heritage trail for Dawlish

Dawlish residents and visitors can now explore the history of the area with a new heritage trail around the town.

The Dawlish Heritage Trail has been developed by Teignbridge, with funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and Devon County Council.
