Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

Almost 150 Devon women attended an event at County Hall on Friday to share stories of the work they do supporting their communities to mark International Women’s Day.

The two events, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, were hosted by Chair of Devon County Council, Councillor Caroline Chugg, and each of the invited women had been nominated by their communities. It follows Cllr Chugg’s pledge, made in her inauguration speech last May, to recognise ‘women who have achieved’.

Police investigate reports of stalking in Exmouth

Police have released an e-fit of a man that they would like to speak to in connection with reports of stalking in Exmouth.

The incident was reported to have happened during the afternoon of Tuesday 5 March on Belvedere Road.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was reported to have been approached whilst walking home by a man who made threats to harm her. The man grabbed the victims arm and made further verbal threats before leaving on foot. The victim was uninjured.

Prestigious event to be first of its kind in the South West

A prestigious interior design event, the first of its kind to be held in the south west, will take place this month.

Design Central south west will be held at Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter on March 26 and 27.

Local franchisee David Shawyer and a team of 13 volunteers from his restaurants across Exeter recently came together to plant an impressive 300 trees in Exeter Valley Park. 1 in 6 not registered to vote in the South West, warns Electoral Commission

A new campaign has launched to encourage people across the South West to register to vote, ahead of local elections on 2 May 2019.

The Electoral Commission estimates that 16% of people are not registered to vote in the region. Its ‘Got 5?’ campaign encourages people to take five minutes to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/registertovote .

Elections are taking place in 23 out of 37 local authorities in the South West. Anyone who is not yet registered must do so by Friday 12 April in order to vote in elections in their local area.

Cabinet finalises development terms for new watersports centre in Exmouth

East Devon District Council and Grenadier are due to sign the final part of the agreement for a new watersports centre which will include a café and restaurant, public parking, communal space and a new ramp giving direct access to the beach at Queen’s Drive on Exmouth seafront.

The district council’s Cabinet agreed (March 6) a report explaining the latest details of the agreement proposed with Grenadier. The council is on target to complete the new road and car park by June 19.
