Dementia UK shares the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for ahead of free clinics in South West

Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Hosted by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses, the clinics are open to anyone impacted by dementia, offering life-changing support to families and individuals in the area. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK’s website here .

Teignbridge District Council are encouraging members of the public to have their say and get involved with a Review Group looking into the new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which came into effect on 1 April 2019.

As part of the new dog control measures a cross political party review group has been set up and held its first meeting last month. The purpose of the Review Group is to undertake a strategic review of the Council’s PSPO in relation to dog walking. To mark 100 years of the Forestry Commission, this year’s Devon County Show is implementing several initiatives to celebrate this milestone in the Commission’s rich history, including a hunt to find Devon’s best loved tree.

Housing estate developer stakes claim to city playing field

Luxury housing estate developer, Burrington Estates, made clear its intention to build on a St Leonard’s playing field on Wednesday.

Surprising local residents, it placed large signs advertising its “Homes of Distinction” around the field, opposite the main road junctions.

The playing field is currently owned by the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education but Burrington Estates were granted an option to purchase it in January. The sale is part of the school’s move to new premises in Exmouth and its site to the south of the Topsham Road has already been granted planning...

KEEN and amateur walkers from Devon are being invited to take advantage of a free footwear fitting service being offered as part of a national Healthy Feet Month (April 2019).

Taunton Leisure, which is on Fore Street in Exeter, is supporting the April event, which is run by the College of Podiatry, by offering complimentary boot fittings daily during normal opening hours.

An exciting new event comes to Devon for the first time later this year when Hospiscare hosts Wild Tri, and its big brother, Wild Tri Extreme.

South Tawton Parish Council is delighted to announce that the Night Landing Site at South Zeal Recreation Ground is now operational. The facility allows the Air Ambulance to land during the ‘hours of darkness’, which is of vital importance for such a rural parish.

Storybook Dads receives donation from libraries

Storybook Dads, the Devon-based charity that works to support prisoners in maintaining relationships with their children through stories and reading, has received £1,000 from fellow charity Libraries Unlimited.

Chief Executive of Libraries Unlimited, Ciara Eastell OBE and Vice Chair of the Board of trustees, David Lockwood, visited the charity at its headquarters at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Channings Wood to present the team with the cheque and have a tour of the facilities.

The money was raised by Ciara and David last year when they both took part in sponsored runs....
