Wren Kitchens is pleased to announce the anticipated opening of its 80th state-of-the-art showroom next month at Stone Lane Retail Park in Exeter.

The UK’s number one kitchen retailer has invested around £1million in transforming the former Currys store, which now contains the county’s largest kitchen range on display from industrial style, to country and ultra-modern.

It’s created 27 local jobs from kitchen designers to showroom managers and this recent investment is part of Wrens wider expansion plans, opening 14 showrooms across the UK this year.

Stagecoach South West and The Devon General Society commemorated 100 years of bus travel with two historic buses and a modern Stagecoach South West bus recreating the original Service 2 route from Exeter to Torquay.

The journey, on one of the county’s oldest bus routes, took place on Thursday 18 July as part of a year of events celebrating the centenary of bus travel in Devon.

RGB Building Supplies has selected Exeter-based Constructing Futures Devon as a finalist in its 30th Well Built Community Fund and it’s now down to a public vote to see if it’s chosen to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.

As part of Devon Communities Together, it has been set up to train young people in the construction industry. Trainees gain first-hand experience by working on properties purchased by Constructing Futures Devon. On Sunday 2nd June three intrepid Freemasons from Devon set out to conquer the beaches which formed the landing places of the 2nd world war Normandy Landings on the 6th June 1944.

‘Intensive’ beekeeping not to blame for common bee diseases

More “intensive” beekeeping does not raise the risk of diseases that harm or kill the insects, new research suggests.

Intensive agriculture – where animals or plants are kept crowded together in very high densities – is thought to result in higher rates of disease spreading.

But researchers from the University of Exeter and the University of California, Berkeley found this is not the case for honeybees.

Their study modelled the spread of multiple honeybee diseases and found that crowding many colonies together was “unlikely to greatly increase disease prevalence...

Swimming trunks, a fishing rod and part of a car exhaust system were among the surprising items found on the latest beach clean organised by staff at Living Coasts.
