Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Devon County Council has won a top accolade at the country’s most prestigious awards ceremony for the parking industry.

The authority picked up the “best practice reporting: Customer Service award” at the annual PATROL PARC (Parking Annual Report Awards by Councils) Awards held in London.

PATROL (Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London) represents over 300 local authorities in England, outside of London, and Wales who undertake civil enforcement.

Exciting new pump track opens in Exeter

BMX riders and mountain bikers are enjoying an exciting new facility in Exeter.

Thrillseekers are getting to grips with a new pump track in Heavitree Pleasure Ground. The facility has been installed by Exeter City Council working in partnership with Park Life Heavitree.

The dirt track is a continuous loop of banked turns, rollers and jumps that enables users to generate speed with little or no pedalling.

A joint letter has been sent to Sustrans expressing support from a number of local councils for the delivery of the Teign Estuary Trail.

Devon County Council, Teignbridge District Council, and town and parish councils on the Estuary have signed up to the letter which sets out the progress that has been made and the joint commitment being made by the local authorities to continue moving forward with the scheme.

The 20th anniversary of Devon County Council’s Community Transport Awards was celebrated last night (Thursday 18 July) – with 12 awards presented in recognition of outstanding contributions in local communities.

Patients benefit from state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment

Patients at the Mardon Neuro-rehabilitation Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust will benefit from specialist rehabilitation equipment, thanks to a donation from the Exeter Chiefs Foundation and Mardon League of Friends.

The donation means that patients at the Mardon centre, a 12-bedded unit in Exeter providing inpatient neurorehabilitation, will be able to practice walking on both the treadmill and over ground with the support of the Litegait Partial Weight-Bearing System, worth nearly £30,000.

A new campaign has been launched to encourage landowners with ash trees on their property to inspect them for Ash dieback.

Devon County Council’s “My tree, my responsibility” campaign, supported by the Devon Ash Dieback Resilience Forum, aims to inform owners of trees to look out for signs of the fungal tree disease and to take any appropriate action in order to maintain public safety.

More than 90% of Devon’s native ash trees are expected to be lost due to Ash dieback in the next five to 15 years.

Wren Kitchens is pleased to announce the anticipated opening of its 80th state-of-the-art showroom next month at Stone Lane Retail Park in Exeter.

Stagecoach South West and The Devon General Society commemorated 100 years of bus travel with two historic buses and a modern Stagecoach South West bus recreating the original Service 2 route from Exeter to Torquay.

RGB Building Supplies has selected Exeter-based Constructing Futures Devon as a finalist in its 30th Well Built Community Fund and it’s now down to a public vote to see if it’s chosen to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.

As part of Devon Communities Together, it has been set up to train young people in the construction industry. Trainees gain first-hand experience by working on properties purchased by Constructing Futures Devon.
