Exeter Racecourse partners with ELF to launch Festive Gifting Programme

Exeter Racecourse is delighted to announce a new partnership with The Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) for ELF Raceday, taking place on Friday 5th December 2025.

Through this collaboration, ELF and Exeter Racecourse will launch a special gifting programme aimed at bringing joy to children and families supported by the charity during the Festive season.

Candles on the Canal is a new event hosted by local charity Hospiscare . Its purpose is to bring hundreds of local people together for a relaxed and uplifting evening in memory of loved ones who have died, taking place on Saturday 21 September from 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome regardless of who they are remembering, how long ago their loved ones died or whether they were looked after by Hospiscare.

Stagecoach bus companies across the UK are helping to support Armed Forces Day 2019. With events planned across the country, it is a chance to celebrate the great work of our Armed Forces. Stagecoach South West is offering free travel for armed forces personnel, as part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations.

This Armed Forces Day, SSAFA calls on the nation to update their view of the Forces and celebrate the ‘everyday’ heroes serving our country

New research from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, reveals outdated misconceptions of the modern-day military are having a concerning impact on public support for the Forces.

The findings, commissioned for Armed Forces Day, show over a third of people in the South West (34%) do not actively support the Armed Forces.

Concerningly, 43% would only support an Armed Forces charity during times of conflict and almost a quarter (31%)...

The public is invited to see women in science present their research in Princesshay on Saturday June 29.

Temporary closure of path near Kings Arms Swing Bridge

Work is nearing completion on the replacement of the Kings Arms Swing Bridge near Exeter Quay. The new 15-metre span steel structure has now been lifted into place, and to enable the path to be reinstated on either side of the crossing, the paths leading to the pedestrian swing bridge will need to be closed for four days this week.

The path near the bridge will be closed from 7:30am tomorrow (Tuesday 25 June) and is expected to reopen by Saturday morning (29 June).

Council commits to reopening Riverside pool in 2020 and says the facility will be better than ever 

Councillors have reaffirmed their commitment to reopening the pool at the Riverside Leisure Centre as soon as crucial repair works are completed.

Leading councillors took part in a site visit to see progress on work to repair major structural weaknesses at the building which were discovered following a major fire in 2017.

The Donkey Sanctuary’s golden anniversary was celebrated last week alongside its 50-year banking partnership with Barclays bank.

Representatives from Barclays visited the charity’s international headquarters in Sidmouth where they presented staff with an engraved Dartington Crystal glass vase.
