Exeter Racecourse is delighted to announce a new partnership with The Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) for ELF Raceday, taking place on Friday 5th December 2025.

Through this collaboration, ELF and Exeter Racecourse will launch a special gifting programme aimed at bringing joy to children and families supported by the charity during the Festive season.

No plans to sell land at Bull Meadow Park, Council reveals

A proposal to sell part of a city park to create access for vehicles at a proposed new housing development is set to be ruled out by the City Council.

Exeter Homes Trust had requested that the council sells a section of Bull Meadow Park to create a turning point for cars to access new homes as part of the proposed £9m redevelopment of Fairpark Almshouses.

An animal welfare campaigner who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash has been awarded a posthumous RSPCA Honours award for her work creating a safer world for animals.

Joanna was the first British woman to be named as a victim of the tragedy in which 157 people died in March this year.

RMBI Care Co. Home Cadogan Court in Exeter has recognised the contribution of its furriest staff member - Molly the dog – by giving her an official job title and certificate.

Staff and residents felt that Labradoodle Molly plays such an important role in the wellbeing of everyone at the Home that the title of ‘Health and Wellbeing Support Officer’ should be bestowed upon her.

Dartmoor National Park Authority elects new chair

Christow resident Pamela Woods has been elected chair of Dartmoor National Park Authority.

Her deputy, farmer Peter Harper, is also from the Teign Valley.

The appointments were made on Friday 14 June at the authority’s annual general meeting held at Parke, Bovey Tracey.

Digital platforms boosts support for Armed Forces in the South West

A new website and film designed to provide support and training for those working with former service personnel in communities, has been launched. The website and film has been produced by a group of southwest councils as part of the South West Armed Forces Covenant Project.

The councils, led by Wiltshire Council, include Bristol City, Cornwall, Devon County Council, Gloucestershire County Council, North Somerset and Somerset. New wildlife sound posts unveiled at Seaton Wetlands

Two new sound posts have been installed around Seaton Wetlands. Powered by solar energy, the posts play commentary and wildlife sounds to help visitors learn more about the reserve.

Currently, the post at Stafford Marsh has three Warblers bird calls and the Borrow Pit post has Kingfisher, Moorhen and Little Grebe. As the seasons change, the sound recordings will be updated, so look out for a new set of sounds and information in the autumn.
