Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

National Trust starts to unwrap Castle Drogo as scaffolding comes down

Scaffolding which has enclosed the National Trust’s Castle Drogo for nearly six years has started to come down, as the project to make the castle watertight progresses, however there’s still work to be done both inside and out.

Whilst the project continues, some scaffolding will remain on a smaller scale for final works to complete around the bottom sections of the castle walls. District’s recycling rate increases by 13% in two years thanks to extended recycling service introduced in 2017

East Devon residents have been crowned the recycling champions of the county as the latest Devon-wide statistics for 2018/19 show they now recycle an astonishing 59% of their waste.

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have joined forces with Devon County Council and other local businesses to raise awareness and celebrate breastfeeding, as part of Devon County Council’s scheme, Devon Positive about Breastfeeding.

New for 2019, the RS200 Class Association are excited to be integrating an RS200 Big Beach Clean at Beacon Cove as part of the Super Social Schedule!

Following the recent devastating news of plastic polluting our seas, RS200 sailors have decided to play their part in tackling this problem. Next Steps South West’s work at Exeter College is set to continue as the National Collaborative Outreach Programme has been extended for a further two academic years, with a new completion date of 31 July 2021.

Established in January 2017, Next Steps South West (NSSW) operates out of 14 partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset with the aim of providing impartial advice to young people who are trying to navigate their journey to higher education.

Network Rail commits to summer of Dawlish beach cleans

Network Rail has announced that throughout the summer, staff will be undertaking regular beach cleans along the Dawlish sea front to help keep the beach clean and free from rubbish. The commitment follows the break in work to improve the resilience of the sea wall between Dawlish station and Kennaway tunnel over the peak tourist season.

Savvy South West savers lead the #FixFirst charge!

A survey by the UK’s leading online spare parts retailer, eSpares, has found that residents from the South West are saving money and protecting the environment by taking the time to fix broken household appliances. 46% of the region would prefer to have items repaired than needlessly throw them away.
