New trustee brings decades of experience in social care leadership to Westbank Community Health and Care

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome Ian Hobbs, a former social worker and social care professional, to its Board of Trustees.

After 42 years working in a range of roles within Devon County Council, Ian is bringing his considerable skills and leadership experience to the third sector. As a Trustee, he is looking forward to helping the team at Westbank to deliver its ambitious programme of interrelated services and to make the changes that will be needed to adapt to the future.

Members of Exeter Conservatives are waging war on weeds as part of a campaign to clean up the South West’s streets, beaches and countryside, which has been backed by Environment Secretary Theresa Villiers.

There have been lengthy delays in weed-spraying across Exeter after the contractor used by the Labour-led city council was held up.

The contractor had been due to start work in Exeter in mid to late July but had still not arrived by early September.

The tenants of East Devon District Council have excelled themselves in this year's Tenants' Gardening Competition with an outstanding selection of garden entries.

Postbridge Visitor Centre is about to embark on a new chapter in its history as it undergoes a £500,000 extension. Dartmoor National Park Authority is taking the next steps in its ambitious vision to transform the centre and tell the Dartmoor Bronze Age story in greater detail. Exmouth Town Concert Band has become one of the first beneficiaries of the Hendy Foundation which was set up to support charities and good causes.

The band has been given £1,470 by Hendy Foundation which will be used to buy jackets for new members.

“We’re delighted with this donation to help the band as the jackets really help with our identity,” said Kelly Hammond. “We are a community wind band providing entertainment to the local community by performing at a variety of events in the area.”

The Dissenters Graveyard will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm on 2 September weekends, the 14th/15th and the 21st/22nd.

From 12.30 on the afternoon of Sunday 15th they will be exploring a high-tech method of reading worn and lichen covered monument inscriptions. Reflectance Transformation Imaging is a method for revealing surface detail being used and explored in the Imaging Suite at Exeter University.
